Stayed here after arriving in Anchorage, and if time allows, what a good way to get Alaska launched. Not inexpensive, and worth the money. I thought we got good value including free access to: two open-deck kayaks, two canoes, two SUPs, a made to order breakfast included (and it was a good breakfast) and a very roomy cabin. We stayed in cabin 5, which is off the road, not lakefront. The cabins kind of look like the long narrow ones that one finds at KOAs, but these cabins are spacious and luxe. The grounds are kept up, and there are many benches by the lake. Positives: no carpeting, two sinks, separate w/c, great water pressure, good towels, lots of hot water, wood hangers, Keurig, macro-fridge, microwave, windows work well, large space, very clean. We knew ahead of time that we'd be using the futon as a bed, and when we arrived, the futon was made up as a bed. It is an excellent futon, and was like sleeping on a "real" bed. All staff were unfailingly kind and polite. Negatives: As lovely as the setting is, next to a lake, the lodge is also next to a major road, and even in Cabin 5, I could hear trucks--they do mostly stop at night, but not completely. I do keep windows cracked open. One can hear the hot water heaters from other cabins turn on and off- again, going to be more noticeable for people who sleep with windows open. The cabins are tightly spaced, and we were unlucky to have neighbors who liked to talk loudly to each other from their lakefront decks, and in the common area in front of the cabins. Your experience may be completely different, esp if you keep your windows shut. The lobby is locked until breakfast starts at 8:00am. It would have been nice to have access to the lobby as soon as staff arrive, (or even at any time), esp as one has to go to the lobby to have wifi. I can see that my negative list is taking up a lot more space than the positive list, but I would definitely stay again in a cabin, and definitely try to get a lakefront cabin.
