Upon checking in for a recent stay, we were given a room with one king bed even though we had reserved (nearly three month earlier) a room with 2 queen beds (for 3 of us). We immediately returned to the front desk to tell them we had the wrong room and the desk clerk responded: "I know." She then disappeared into the back room for about 5 minutes and then a manager appeared to tell us there were no 2-bed rooms available because "their inventory was sold out." He didn't try to explain why our reservation had not been honored. Instead, he offered to bring a rollaway bed into the room which, given the size of the room, would have had us stepping over each other to get into/out of bed. When we refused that, he looked stammered for a bit before disappearing again (to check his system) and eventually found a second room, that he could let us have at a discount. Tired of debating it with him, we accepted, even though it meant paying almost $200 more than we already had. The really annoying part was that nobody ever offered an apology for messing up our reservation. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this hotel.
