My friend and I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in August. It is extremely well-located, walkable from the train station, right in the centre of the (admittedly small) town and very comfortable. You get breakfast included in the room rate which consisted of a very good cold buffet selection, juices, coffee, etc and then a few small hot items you could order (like eggs, bacon, pancakes) which were also included. We also ate in the restaurant twice, and both times the food was excellent. We had a wonderful view onto the mountains. Simon was very friendly and checked us in and out, and also came over to ask how the food was the nights we ate in the restaurant. All of the servers in the restaurant and at breakfast were friendly and enthusiastic. A few things kept if from being a 5 star review. As a few others have mentioned, our room was very warm. We were there in the middle of summer but it was actually unusually cold. Each morning we left our windows open (as they had been open all night to cool the room) and every day when we came back from hiking (sometimes very late) they would be closed and it would take a long time to cool down again. There was also something weird with the TV where occasionally a mysterious german voice would emanate from the TV for a few seconds! We never figured it out, it was so weird though. And perhaps the worst and most unprofessional experience we had was asking for a restaurant recommendation from Franziska who happened to be sitting on the desk. She literally could not offer a recommendation outside of the hotel's own restaurant. When pushed she halfheartedly suggested the restaurant of the nearest other hotel, her explanation being "I don't really eat out in Meiringen and I just love our restaurant." Look, I understand that the chef is your husband and it's a good restaurant but this is frankly amateur hour level behaviour. This is an expensive, upscale hotel. I expect the host to at least be able to rattle off 2 or 3 recommended places to eat outside of their own. Luckily, we later went to the tourist information center who gave us some wonderful restaurant recommendations, including where we could get fondue (which Franziska claimed was impossible. Not so!) So all in all a good experience but some strangely unprofessional behaviour from one of the owners.
