Saltmarshe Hall

We had our wedding here on Saturday 16th December, arriving on Friday 15th. We were very lucky with the weather, sunset around the venue and the river was just breathtaking! We had a couple of issues, one whereby two of our guests had to move rooms late on Friday night due to the toilet not flushing and on the Saturday morning the cottage did not have hot water, this should have been checked prior to check in, breakfast was nice albeit the baked beans were cold, should be served in a small dish on plate in my opinion. Anyhow all of that aside the wedding was absolutely perfect. Ashleigh and the team were superb not only on the day but right the way through from when we booked the venue. Ashleigh is very professional but also has a very calm demeaner which instantly put us at ease and gave us confidence that the wedding would go smoothly, The day itself was pretty stress free, all of what we had planned went ahead without any hiccups. Any questions we had Ashleigh dealt with promptly and kept us informed of what was happening and timescales with the registrars etc. We had our ceremony in the Drawing Room and wedding breakfast in the Morning Room. There were some really lovely small touches by the team that just added to the day. The venue was very relaxed and accommodated our wishes from the snow machine, providing changing facilities for our living statue, carefully planning where the soprano lady would be situated to optimise performance, we were at capacity on guest numbers in the drawing room, again Ashleigh came up with a plan to ensure all guests were there along with the harpist and soprano. When we came out of the ceremony we were immediately met by the team with our drinks and staff were lined up ready with our reception drinks for our guests, James Lomas was playing the piano, we had booked James after seeing him perform at the open day at Saltmarshe Hall in January. The canapes were delicious, many of our guests commented on these. We had paid extra to give our guests a main menu choice, beef, chicken or seabass, all were fantastic, we could not fault the food or the service, we had also paid extra for a trio of desserts which again didn't disappoint. The Morning Room looked amazing and the staff turned this around very quickly for the evening do. We used a number of the venue's recommended suppliers all of which delivered at a high standard. The next morning all of our things had been packed up overnight by the night porter and were waiting for us in the entrance hall. The bedrooms at this venue are beautiful, in keeping with the age of the house but with a modern twist and beautiful bathrooms. We had the absolute perfect magical wedding day! What a beautiful place! We came for a wedding and it was amazing. The staff were fab. Special shout out to the agency staff (with dreadlocks) who did an amazing job. We didn’t stay over but the premier inn at goole is only 20 minutes away by car. Saltmarsh could do with a better path from where you park your car to the front door as it’s not great to negotiate wearing stilletos. 😍

We had the most amazing wedding day in April 2024. We originally viewed saltmarshe at an open evening in July 2023 and fell in love with the venue. There were no summer 2024 dates left, but Amy contacted us to let us know of some April deals where they offered a discount rate and money towards the amazing All occasions of Howden. After some thought, we decided to take the plunge and plan the wedding in 9 months. We visited Saltmarshe for a couple of meetings in the planning stages, and we got more excited every time. Amy was always enthusiastic and would handle our requests at ease - even when we had numerous changes to the meals. We booked all the rooms for two nights and really felt like royalty for the weekend, having all our family and friends there for two evenings. We had our ceremony in the morning room, which was light and beautiful, even if you have a rainy day! The venue itself was stunning and we had so many guests compliment it. Amy was fab on the day, and managed to manoeuvre all the guests with ease so we could get all the shots we wanted. Tim was also amazing at ensuring everything ran smoothly and all the guests were happy. Compared to other venues we viewed, Saltmarshe is a great value, high quality venue and we were able to add all the extras we wanted to truly make it the best day ever.

After reading the reviews on here we were looking forward to our stay at Saltmarshe Hall but our experience was not a good one. Our room described as a ‘suite’ was more like an executive room and even though it was a cold and wet day, there was no heating on in the hotel and the bathroom was particularly cold. The temperature on the shower could not be adjusted as the control on it wasn’t working. The evening meal was a disgrace and on asking the waiter whether it was the Chef’s night off I was assured that he was on duty. I felt sorry for the older couple sitting on the next table to us who complained to the waiter that their meal was not warm and the meat undercooked and asked that it be returned to the kitchen. Service in the restaurant was painfully slow. The Continental breakfast was just about acceptable had it not been for a large bluebottle fly that had taken up residence among the cereals. When I pointed this out to the waiter he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. There is a lovely heated swimming pool in the walled garden but the toilet and changing facilities are primitive and lacking in privacy. The gardens are a credit to the young lady who looks after them and the hotel is in a lovely setting.

A hidden gem in beautiful gardens We had a lovely stay here for 2 nights midweek and really enjoyed the peace and quiet. The food was delicious and so well presented. Such a treat !! Thank you to all of the staff who made our stay so comfortable. We would definitely recommend it.

Words cannot describe how special Saltmarshe made my wedding weekend. They are a venue that not only provides a service but goes above and beyond whilst doing so. We stayed there in the run up to the wedding as well and it was always an wonderful stay with gorgeous food. The staff are incredible, and the venue is so beautiful and well kept. Nothing was too much to ask, Saltmarshe is accomodating, supportive, very experienced and personable. I could not speak more highly of them. I would highly recommend the venue for any event or stay.

It was a beautiful sunny day so we had afternoon tea on the terrace. The food was plentiful and delicious, a cut above other afternoon teas we have had. Every member of staff was pleasant and helpful, a credit to the Hotel. A walk around the beautiful gardens rounded off a lovely afternoon.

We had afternoon tea. It was lost lovely. The staff very friendly and helpful. Sunny warm weather so sat outside. Plenty of food, so much we had some boxed up to take home. Walked round the lovely gardens. Would definitely come again well worth it.

We spent a few wonderful days at Saltmarshe Hall as we were desperately in need of a rest, we were so very well looked after. The hall and gardens are beautiful, we could not have asked for more. The food is very well selected and cooked. The chef certainly knows what he is doing in the kitchen, I could heartily recommend both the breakfast and evening meal. We had a lovely room within the main house and we slept soundly. The surrounding area is quiet and perfect for long walks. We will definitely be visiting again.
