What a view during morning

酒店先説好的：酒店的風景無敵好，在Roof可以俯瞰Kandy（圖1&2）；早餐也還不錯，每人一個set，我選的Sri Lanka（圖3） 再來，有很嚴重的問題： 首先，預訂的時候看清楚，“可住1人”，到店後如果有第二個人，補20USD 其次，Lobby的reception對中國人不是很友好，笑臉相應走上來，問“Are you Japanese？”我們説“No, we are Chinese.” 然後他扭頭走了… 再有，房間沒有很乾凈，看圖4的床單 最重要的，如果你對黴味很敏感，真的不要定！！！房間一開門全是黴味，看下圖5的沙發就知道了；跟前台反饋後，他們的解決方案是噴空氣清新劑…

酒店乾淨，還不錯，需要自己備拖鞋和牙刷牙膏，服務也是不錯的。

Don't go by the Hotel website description of the property. They have few good rooms, rest all are small n dingy. We paid for Room upgrade but were given very small n dingy so called "Deluxe Rooms". Front desk people are Non cooperative. After much discussions, They shifted our Rooms, but only on the 2nd Day of our stay. The Rooms were big but the view was very poor n the Airconditioner was very noisy throughout the night. This is an Old property with much needed Renovation of the Rooms. All the people in our group got similar small n noisy Rooms. It seemed that only Indian Tourists were being discriminated against. Hotel Ambience is good, but far away from a 5 Star property(3 Star, at best)

We arrived at the hotel yesterday and stayed for one night. We have a room on the second floor which is spacious. Unfortunately we have been very disappointed with our stay. The room is very tired, the WiFi and TV did not work and the shower flooded. To be fair, an engineer did bring a WiFi booster box to our room and mended the TV which broke again when we changed channel. I think the most disappointing element to our stay is they gave us a room with scaffolding and plastic sheeting over the windows which meant we could not enjoy the view. It was so unsightly. Surely in such a big hotel, there were other rooms we could have had? If we had been staying longer, I would have asked to move. On a positive side, the staff were all friendly and attentive and the food was fine. I think the management need to stay in these rooms to assess what they are like from a guest’s point of view. Very disappointed.

This hotel is very grand on first impressions and the welcome is lovely. The reception area and lobby is very nice with lovely furnishings and furniture and check in was quick with polite staff. Alarm bells start ringing however when you have to sign a waiver stating the hotel is not responsible for any falls within the hotel!!!! We were shown to our room on the third floor buly a very polite member of staff however as we approached our room you could see attention to detail was lacking with wallpaper not properly trimmed and peeling from the walls. We stayed in room 316 which was very big and all controlled by a central box near the bed which contained all light switched and air con. Upon closer inspection of the room there was a very small step down into the bathroom and the shower which was not obvious hence the waiver about trips. We had a nice balcony and the bed was comfortable however the air con unit was very loud and when switched off made an even louder ticking noise. The control box did not work the air con very well. There were stains on the wallpaper, chaise longue, bedside cabinets and skirting boards and the tiling finish in the shower. The WiFi was non existent and would not connect for our stay which is unacceptable for any hotel. It's these little things and attention to detail which make a hotel 5 star and the Grand Kandyan does not achieve this. Having stayed in 5 star hotels in London the difference is huge between those and the Grand Kandyan. Also our front door had a huge crack around the lock where someone had clearly tried to force entry and the door should really have been replaced. We also ate in the restaurant where staff were not very friendly or efficient. We had to ask for a drinks menu twice however the food was good. There was a singer though who was very poor. There seemed to be alot of staff walking round doing nothing whilst others were rushing to do the work. I understand that 5 star hotel in Sri Lanka will not be as good as one in London however if you have the word luxury in your sign at the entrance then the issues I have addressed should be rectified. It's called ongoing inspection and maintenance which is clearly lacking here.
