The Lucky Elephant

What a beautiful and amazing location and hotel. I loved that it was almost boutique style. We upgraded our room and boy was that the most beautiful and breathtaking view with the waves almost touching our toes we were on the doorstep of the beautiful sound of crashing waves. The staff were super attentive and it was an all round relaxed vibe. The service is immaculate, even though the breakfast can do with including a few more things for guests to choose from, it was by far the best location and the pool was just the most serene pool. It’s family friendly, they included us in the Xmas eve dinner and it was so special. The releasing of the turtles was such a thoughtful little activity to do with the guests. I did not want to leave this place, I loved our room so much, we stayed in room 208. To us it was the presidential suite, our safe haven to recoup from our busy schedules and lives. The area of Hikkaduwa has imprinted on our hearts and the lucky elephant feels like home. We booked the airport transfer and were picked up swiftly, on time and driven 2 hours to the airport, thank u for this service, we took the same service back to the airport on our departure and our driver was the most amazing driver, taking much care to get us safely to the airport, such amazing humans in this country. What a special place with special people who are the beating heart of the hotel. We love u lucky elephant, the staff, The location and Hikkaduwa. Thank u for taking caring of us and for making us feel at home, allowing us to unwind, and forget the world for a while, we cannot wait to come back and stay in room 208 again. Unfortunately only stopped here for one night at the end of our tour of Sri Lanka. We were working our way back to the airport. Arrived unannounced and early. No problem welcome drink and a short sit on the beach whilst our room was prepared. Only waited 30 minutes but were then told we had been upgraded to the suite. What a fabulous room. Beach area fantastic. Decided to eat in as the staff had been so nice. Superb meal and service. Left early the next morning armed with a take away breakfast. Do not be put off by the average looking front of building - all of the hotels looked a bit like this, once inside and the beach facing area were all excellent.

We stayed in room 208 which i strongly recommend if it is available. The views are spectacular and the size of the room is fantastic. The bathroom and especially the shower are lovely including blinds so you can look out at the sea whilst in the bathroom. Whilst we didn’t use it, the minibar prices were very reasonable which i think shows what the hotel is about. The pool was a lovely size for swimming and the complimentary towels were a nice touch. Breakfast had a mix of Sri Lankan and western foods including an egg station with egg hoppers, omelettes etc. The only downside which is a preference thing is there is a lot of staff hanging around but it is sometimes a bit too much. I am glad they are employing local staff but it is always nice to feel like you are on your own and help is around if you need it rather than feeling like you are always surrounded. Drink prices at the bar were a bit high in comparison to other hotels we had stayed in so take a wander out as there are some fantastic restaurants and bars around. If we ever come back to this area of Sri Lanka we will be staying in Room 208 of the Lucky Elephant Hotel.
