"I recently stayed at the Colombo Court Hotel, and while it offers good value and excellent rooms, the hospitality felt a bit rigid for a tourist. First, the bright spots: The room itself was fantastic. It was large, impeccably clean, and featured great-quality sheets with plenty of excellent pillows. The bathroom was stocked with plush towels and quality toiletries. Since I arrived fighting a cold, the great selection of coffee and teas in the room was an absolute lifesaver. However, the customer service left a lot to be desired. I arrived at noon after an all-night flight. Even though it's the low season and the hotel felt completely empty, the front desk rigidly enforced the 2:00 PM check-in time. They didn't even offer an early check-in for a fee. Instead, I was told I could wait out in the heat by the pool for two hours. There was also a strange billing issue at check-in. The front desk asked me for a $43 payment, even though I had already prepaid in full. I had to firmly show them my paperwork showing the booking platform's virtual credit card payment before they backed off. They didn't bring it up again, but it felt a bit like a shakedown attempt. Finally, my booking confirmation explicitly stated checkout was between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM. Yet, at 11:30 AM, staff knocked on my door telling me checkout was actually at 11:00 AM. Even after showing the front desk my confirmation, they insisted their rule was 11:00 AM. The staff was always friendly and polite, but it felt like they were serving their rulebook rather than their guests. The property is very clean but has much more of a business-traveler vibe than a welcoming tourist destination. I have another reservation here for my return leg, but I’ll be canceling it to stay somewhere else."

"Maniumpathy is a perfect location close enough to central Colombo but also a haven away from the hubbub of the city. Turning into the drive was like going back in time - arriving under the portico at the front of the building with the staff opening the door just as the car came to a stop! The cooling cloth to freshen and juice on arrival was just an indication of the fabulous indulgence we felt for our 2 night stay. The room was beautiful with a dressing area, double sink and our own little courtyard at the back. What we absolutely loved was the food! The thali was just mouth-watering, the breakfasts amazing and the cocktails at Dr Hallocks Bar were sublime! We loved that locals were also coming there to dine. This really was the height of luxury in a building with charm, character and so much history, and service of the highest standard. We would love to stay again in the future!"

"Words can’t express how grateful I am to the team at Shangri La Colombo. I was travelling with my grandma who is 91 years old so I wanted to book our stay at a place that I could count on . I have experienced the hospitality of Shangri-La at other parts of the world and I was hopeful that it would be the same. They did not disappoint. Right from Masood at the door to Dileka at breakfast and Waruna at the Concierge , our every need was met, and then some! It’s fully accessible if you have reduced mobility , and everyone who works there is constantly thinking ahead, so that you feel comfortable. The location is beautiful, the food is amazing and the hospitality is truly exceptional. I’m very grateful to the entire team for ensuring we had a memorable holiday."

"Absolutely delightful in every way. Attractive colonial type building only 7 rooms in hotel. Ours was beautifully furnished with an unusual “open to the skies” bathroom arrangement which worked perfectly. The breakfasts and juices were delicious and we enjoyed Thali dinner, all served on the veranda.. There is a traditional dining room with long table which would be wonderful if you had a large party and booked all the rooms. "Not too sure if the location is good or not, but we find it is central enough to go anywhere we wanted although we have a driver to take us around. At night, after shopping from One Face Galle, it takes about 20mins including traffic jams to reach the hotel by uber. The view from our city view room is stunning too. You can see the Lotus Tower from the window, or you can rooftop bar with the amazing night view. Breakfast selection was absolutely amazing and the restaurant has a nice sea view.
