YHA Bristol

Yha as always the best..we booked a 3 person room. The location is besides the harbour just in centre of all the hustle bustle as well as quietness! Only one downside the room that is separate than other dorm rooms is located on the top level. The heater or some pipe kept on making noise when ever the winds were strong or any flight went from above (I guess) Positive side: the room comes with skylight..you are able to see stars and moon on a clear night..thus you can sleep glazing at the stars :)

Satisfactory but there was a lot of smell, way is through bar, also time limit till 10pm, but host was responsive....

Great location and staff were very friendly. Room was spacious and had toilet and shower built onto the room rather than being shared across other rooms.

We are seasoned YHA users and sadly this did not meet our expected standard. There was dangerous electrical equipment in the room including a light fitting hanging off the ceiling and a faulty plug socket. There was a large group of young men partying hard which meant that we had a noisy night and felt unsafe going to the bathroom at night. Later arrival (9.30pm) was through the on street bar where myself and my teenage daughters were propositioned by members of the public. Sadly YHAs response to these issues has been inadequate - 21 days response time with a £13.13 YHA credit as a ‘goodwill gesture’. Wanted to deal with this in private but sadly this has not proved effective.

Whilst the visit was ruined by other guests, there are things that the hostel could do to reduce the impact of this. For example, the door to our room had a gap at the bottom, which meant every noise was heard very clearly, including that of our neighbour trying to kick his door in at 2:30am, and a group of young men running up and down the corridor banging on each others doors until gone 1am. The floor boards in the room next door were incredibly creaky, so when the occupants came back at 3am they could clearly be heard walking around. There were numerous doors in the corridor that slammed shut, which could easily be avoided by getting slow door closers (our bedroom door never slammed so they obviously already use some). I understand that these things are often dictated by upper management, but these things really can impact a stay. However, it wasn't all bad (hence the 3 stars). The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much for them. The common areas are nice and ambient, and we enjoyed relaxing in the balcony area.

Worst YH I have ever stayed in and have stayed in lots. Also quite expensive (£55) for a tiny private room with one working toilet down the corridor. 5th floor room and just a few feet from the very noisy door to the floor. People coming in till past 2pm, talking loudly and the floors creak so badly. Then woken at 5.15 by the door and noisy floor. Window only opens a few inches (H&S) so room stuffy though ironically it wouldn't close to block out the noise of late partying. Smelly pillow. Generally shabby, peeling paint etc etc. Not enough hooks in the shower to hang clothes & towel. Fire door in corridor really hard to open. Good location and staff friendly but all spoilt by noise and lack of sleep. Shabbiness and poor upkeep I can cope with but I do think it should be better.

Had a bad experience staying at this place as lost my stuff from room. I had not locked it so my mistake as well. Would never stay here again. And if you happen to stay here , would recommend to keep stuff locked.

BEWARE!! I regret staying here as I lost my stuff from room , and was my mistake as I didn’t care to lock it. So I recommend to carry chain lock for suitcases and spare locks to secure all tiny little stuffs into the under bed lock cage. Wifi not available in rooms. Room heater was working well. Self service Kitchen was helpful. Bathroom were average.
