Everything was excellent. Except the world loudest door on the dorm room. A simple slow moving door closer would solve this. Unfortunately 3 terrible nights sleeps as a result of a small oversight.

Super great hostel! Loved it very much. The location of the hostel is really convenient and you could basically go to major attractions in Amsterdam by walking for a few minutes like the red light district, the Dam square and more importantly the Central station. Though it is a large room that has quite a number of residents, everyone respected each other’s privacy and they did not make loud noises. The receptionists were super nice and helpful and they spoke good English. I would definitely recommend this place to y’all.

Should be called Dirty Nellys Amsterdam - Worst hostel I've stayed at after travelling for more than a month and staying at hostels all around Europe. Incredibly rude and unaccommodating receptionist. Precariously small stairs, no lift anywhere, extremely noisy lobby, tiny cramped room, and linen with marks. Duvet and pillow covers were put on inside out onto the duvet and pillow - not sure if they washed it or lack attention to detail. They also don't put on the sheets on the bed properly. It's just laid on top. The only toilet on the ground floor is disgusting and I had to walk behind the bar into the back rooms to get there and the floor was wet. No manager on site and the only manager is unreachable because it's their day off so the receptionist cannot do anything. She was extremely unhelpful and full of attitude. The rooms are freezing in winter and you cannot change the thermostat. To get them to do anything is like pulling teeth. It's like they've never heard of customer service, and are extremely argumentative. Forget having showers or brushing your teeth without frustration because their showers and taps automatically turn off in seconds. Internet reception is terrible. They charge for luggage storage prior to and after checkout. Locker in room under the bed doesn't open properly and is narrow. There's no kitchen or fridge. They enter the rooms multiple times a day even at night time so forget privacy. It's the kind of place where once you've paid, they don't care about your experience. This place is not worth the location - it's a 12 minute walk from the train station but you are better off getting a room at a slightly distant hostel and catching a bus or the tram. I wish I had done this instead and booked a place at Meininger's which has far better customer service and amenities for a better price.

This is a really beautiful place. The bathrooms are the nicest I've seen in a hostel and the little areas to set up laptops are very cute. The hostel comes with perks - padlock hire and fresh towels daily, with only a deposit to pay. I also liked the staff; thanks to the Californian and Italian guys for helping me with my laptop crisis.

Where do I start, this was a dark stay, not for the weak, loads of old people in a tiny room, please for your own sake don’t book here, sheets was hella dirty, some big don walks the halls early, this prolly making no sense, I have had no sleep it was terrible

Worst, most infuriatingly uncomfortable hostel I've stayed in so far. The only redeeming quality it has is its location. You'll go through hell just trying to make it up the stairs. God help you if you're assigned a top capsule. You're taking your life in your hands trying to climb up the ladder. It's difficult to get a foothold. DO NOT stay here if your luggage is more than a light carryon or back pack, if you have the slightest balance or physical impairment, or if you're a bit on the big side. You will SUFFER. The configuration of the entire hostel is the worst I've ever seen. Virtually nothing makes any sense and everything seems to have been some sort of afterthought. You won't get an ounce of quiet. You'll constantly either hear the pub downstairs or the noises from the street when you're trying to sleep. And you can't have more than one or two people trying to go through their things in the room at a time because you won't be able to move otherwise. The lockers in the corner of the room are so difficult and dangerous to access. Some rooms have their lockers in the hallway. Common area seating is virtually nonexistent, and it is ALL uncomfortable. I only stayed there one night during a long layover and I swear, even I can't believe how many negative things I have to say. I was literally asleep dreaming about how badly I wanted to checkout and leave in the morning. I'm sorry, I'm just being honest. Save your money and find somewhere else to stay,

I can't lie. Brill location, super central. HOWEVER! That's where the good ends and the madness begins... (Copy and pasted from my removed review on trip advisor 😕) don't let them silence being outted for their incredibly dodgy behaviour... Durty Nellys 1,547 reviews 1 ★ 🚫 AVOID, the security will give the master key to their friends to let them into Ur room to 'clean' at 3am. Tried to tell me it was normal for this to happen in hostels, I've stayed all over Amsterdam and even other hostels in other parts of the world... They don't clean when you're asleep, don't let them convince you this is normal, I should have called the police but didn't want to ruins my friends holiday. Also, I was threatened with being kicked out and having the Dutch police called on me because I got angry at the security for giving the "cleaner" a key to our room for him to come in, clean nothing and then leave. The old security guy was actually asleep at his desk watching YouTube videos when I did go down to question him in anger. So please be warned. They're running an unusual game at Durty Nelly's, don't trust them, even the seemingly nice owner tried to convince me in the morning that I was in the wrong for questioning why there was a man in my room at 3:37am. Tbh they're probably all in on it and split the profit. So if you're reading this and are considering staying here please don't you'll likely regret it. and if you're reading this and you work at Durty Nelly's, you should be ashamed of yourself for letting this happen... EDIT: They do NOT want you to see this... they flagged and removed this review because of 'profanity' yet I didn't swear once. EDIT edit: it was removed for a third time... Gunna use chatgpt to keep rewriting this until Google /duttynellys accepts. EDIT (After their reply): Funny how you weren't willing to discuss it with me in person but now months and months later you're completely available to talk about how insane your cleaning schedule is... And it's also funny how in your own words, for a 2nd time now "Race and discrimination" is being mentioned. I didn't mention once about the dudes race, and I obviously wouldn't give a damn about where he's from... He shouldn't be in my room whilst my friends are sleeping at 3:30am, that IS irregular. And to claim that's how hostels do it is just a straight out lie. You're so obviously just liers trying to cover yourselves because you clearly profit off of the things your staff steal for you. It's honestly so telling that you mentioned any of that, trying to make me look like a ****** or something, it's actually laughable. The old man head of security tried to do exactly the same thing when I went downstairs at roughly 4:00am unable to sleep asking: "Why would you give ANYONE the master security key card at 3:30am?" It was one of the initial reasons for my suspicion that this happens regularly and that I wasn't the first to come to you with my concerns... Please PLEASE reply again with some more non

The friendliest staff I've seen! They will be sure to give their best to help you and improve your experience. Everything is clean and works well. I stayed in the capsule bunk, which provides a good level of privacy. The AC worked even a little too well for me, since the room got pretty cold in the evening, but for most people I think the temperature would be perfect. The street sounds could not be heard at all, and the sounds in the room depend on the other guests, of course. There is no lounge room, but the hotel location is truly excellent. The one criticism I have is that the light in the room (which turns on as soon as any movement is detected) does show quite well through the bunk curtain, so I'd suggest bringing a sleeping mask.

The location is central and it’s a tall, very narrow building with no elevator. The stairs are very steep so if you have a suitcase, do not book here. It won’t fit. There is an age limit of 40. I had prepaid and wasn’t aware of this, so they let me stay, but I did meet others who were not allowed to stay. I booked a capsule bunk in a mixed dorm, and it was well worth the extra cost. The AC in the room worked well. The capsules are very private, well built, quiet, and comfortable. Lower bunks have a cage locker under the bunk. Upper bunks have lockers in the rooms. Regular dorm rooms had their lockers outside of the rooms in the hallways. The hostel itself doesn’t have a lounge area, but it is clean, and the staff are friendly. The showers never ran out of hot water but lack water pressure and had water conserving taps, so you had to push the button every few seconds to keep the water on. The Wi-Fi was weak in the rooms but very strong on the main floor. I didn’t hang out in the bar or try the food so can’t comment on either.

The staff are very welcoming, approachable, helpful and kind. Live music in the Irish bar was brilliant! The capsule beds provide a nice level of privacy compared to other hostels. There was also plenty of storage space to fit my suitcase and the communal areas were kept very clean and tidy. Durty Nelly's is also in a very central location, 5 minutes away from everything. Also, shout-out to the staff in Spar across the street who prepared breakfast each morning!

Lovely hostel. The rooms are very cosy, I loved the capsule beds. They were so comfy and made you feel really secure and like you've got plenty of privacy. Also, there was a plug socket and USB ports and a personal light which was very handy. I was on the bottom bed so I had the under bed storage which was perfect to store my suitcase and valuables. The hostel is in an amazing location! Walking distance of loads of attractions and the tram/bus stops are super close. The staff were really nice and helpful. The facilities were lovely and the bathrooms were really nice and clean. I loved the showers and there is a hair dryer in the bathroom which is a big plus. My only complaint is that there's no kitchen or food storage area, which means you have to buy all your meals out and made the trip a bit more expensive- however, this is a small price to pay for such a lovely hostel, and there are loads of options for buying food on the hostel street!
