Tranquility Bay Resort

Feb.13 I'd rate only 2 stars for stunning location. Then owner arrived, fired management + most staff, closed all but the bar. I visited again Feb.23. In only 10 days, improvements are astounding. Look for 5 star review reopening very soon.

This place is the most rundown unprofessional, horrible management, dishonest place ever .The so call manager that is their with his wife They are running the place in a hole . They know nothing about what it takes to run a resort , don't go and eat there they had to pay under the table to get food handlers and to keep the kitchen open . Kitchen is not pass the standards to even be selling tourist or anyone food . Beware guys ..

If I could give this resort 0 stars, I would. This place is very run down and it definitely should not have the title of resort. It is more like a fishing cabin. I got scabies from staying here and ended up in the hospital in San Pedro because I was covered in bites, and had to be treated with steroids, antihistamine and Ivermectin for the scabies . It was absolutely disgusting. I have traveled to many countries and have never The toilets aren't even bolted to the ground. The first night the toilet flooded the entire first floor, there is only A/C in the bedroom and the main room is too hot to sit in without A/C. Breakfast is included on your first day only. There is also a massive infestation of sand fleas, and no store to buy any bug spray or sunscreen on property. When you walk on the beach you will be covered in black, biting sand fleas. The website makes it seem like there is a restaurant, bar and coffee bar. There is only a restaurant, a coffee pot and a bar in the restaurant. The food was good, and the bartender. and staff are great. The people that work there are very nice, but the owner lives in the states and she won't put any money into fixing the "resort", which she bought last year. A few weeks before our trip I called the "resort", the owner happened to be visiting at the time and answered the phone. I asked if the budget traveler's cabana was open to save some money. She told me the resort was booked and it wasn't available, she also said it was in the back of the property and you couldn't really see the ocean from this cabana. There was only one other family there (son and his dad) and they left on our 2nd day, and the budget cabana, which was actually available the whole time has a great view of the ocean, it is just on the other side of one of the larger cabanas. The resort was empty. The owner lied. After the 2nd day, it was clear we couldn't continue to stay in this run down resort and I called the owner to ask for a refund for our remaining days based off of the state of the resort, we were supposed to be there for 6 nights. She refused and was very rude. I feel sorry for the people who work there. Do not waste your time here, unless you don't mind getting scabies and also be covered in sand flea bites. The prices do not reflect the value at all. When I brought this up to the owner, she said she plans on fixing things up in the future. I told her it was robbery charging the prices she does for a rundown, bug infested "resort" and until she actually does something to fix it, do not waste your money.

It is in a great ,tropical ,beautiful , quiet location , can go out your door and snorkel. The food was good but took a real long time, manager said breakfast was included when we arrived but when we went to pay the bill only the first day was included the bar tender told us. This with other things not communicated made what could have been a great trip into a average trip, the manager complained most of the time . The rooms need updating, toilet didn’t work well a few things falling apart like a missing step with exposed nails at the dock were you swim.

I don't have time to list all the issues I've had with this place, but is it gone downhill on the last couple years ever since the new owners took place? They are completely understaffed and you can't get food or service. This visit (January 14 was the topper. It took 40 minutes to fat our appetizers and an hour and 40 minutes for the entree. They were also out of almost half of their mini items.

Extremely remote location with virtually no infrastructure or basic amenities. Cabins were filled with bugs, dirty, dilapidated, and barely functional. At one point, there was no water!! Absolute nigh**are of a place. You had to actively ask the staff to clean the room and they were usually late in doing it. Any meal at the restaurant required a wait of about 3 hours. There are so many dogs roaming around the property and the few staff rarely pick up after them! Next door was a shack around which an average of five extremely aggressive and dangerous dogs hung out and would actively attack you if you try to escape to nearby Margaritaville, which is SOOOO much nicer than this place. The beach chairs had no cushion, no tables even for drinks. There are no fish to see near the reef and snorkel trips to places with fish are over an hour away and expensive. Stay far away from this place! We were just trying to survive it and were regularly scared for our lives. The place should be renamed Hotel Hell!

The manager Panny and the 7 staff members (all his family members) were helpful and extremely interesting, but regrettably the property was simply horrible. Extremely outdated, dilapidated, filthy, barely functional, extremely uncomfortable. Worst hotel experience we have ever had, as if we were in an adult hostel in the jungle (for the price of a luxury resort!!) that was literally without water at one point. Some of the restaurant meals were quite good, but our average wait time for food was almost 3 hours!!! The place is awash in bugs inside and out, no WiFi, we had to chase the “staff” down to clean the room, one bathroom had no door, the stairs to the upstairs were treacherous and very unsafe, the bathrooms were very dirty as was property in general, there are wild dogs walking around and sometimes attacked us, no tables to put a drink down on beach chairs, quite a few unhappy visitors to the restaurant (due to the lengthy wait time) and elicited loud arguments. This was hotel hell and we were just glad to have survived!! Sorry to say it, but stay far away from this place—it is not tranquil except for maybe a short visit.

Not fancy, but just about perfect. Rooms are clean & attractive, AC's work great, beds and pillows super-comfortable. The hospitality is 5-star; the food is excellent; the bar is fully stocked, the ambience is Mother Nature at her best. Quiet, beautiful, private. For lovers of the outdoors, birds, fish, snorkeling, stars at night and the roar of the reef. Ask Pani to play some accordion for you! If you fished and caught, the kitchen will make your catch for dinner. Tip - you may want to bring a deck of cards for after-dinner entertainment.

An ideal location to unplug, unwind and completely relax with perfect views of the turquoise sea from every angle. Good snorkeling right out your front door. You can practically jump off the deck of the restaurant straight into the reef. I'm not a strong swimmer but within a few minutes, I was in the coral, delighted to see juvenile fans sprouting from older formations. The moonrise over the water was spectacular and the stars were equally as brilliant. Listening to the waves break on the reef then quietly splash onto the sand under the glistening night sky was unexpectedly romantic. During the day, resting on a chaise, watching the pelicans dive into the water or the small Caribbean birds flitting from palm tree to palm tree was exactly the antidote required after the stress and foolishness in New York City. The staff was attentive, responsive and laughed at my husband's goofy jokes. Jackie, the manager, arranged a private charter to the mangroves of Bacalar Chico for us that included two fabulous snorkeling stops further inside the marine reserve. The food was plentiful and good - and for us, much more pleasant than artificially social meal times at All Inclusive resorts where you may be surrounded by committed day drinkers. You can easily enjoy your leftovers from the restaurant in your cabana later. The cabana was comfortable and the hardwood ceilings were lovely, and if I felt like a cocktail, Caesar the bartender made something perfect to sip while enjoying the ocean breeze from one of the loungers on the deck of the restaurant. Folks from the neighborhood dock their boats for lunch or drinks, so you can be as social or as private as you like. The friendly, well trained local dogs were a bonus. We loved watching Randy, the Shepherd mix who lives at Tranquility Bay, chasing the little excavator as the sargassum was cleared every morning. A couple of dogs from the neighbor's house came to visit, share some affection and snooze in the shade. Tranquility Bay definitely exceeded our expectations. It had everything we wanted and nothing we didn't.
