Hotel is conveniently located and there is a 24-hour bar which is good to have business discussions within the hotel at any time of the day. 

Great location in central Almaty but not a true 5 star hotel in my opinion. Overall old and the pictures don't really show the details of the wear and tear. The tap ran dirty brown water for a good 5 minutes, which stained one of the towels. When I checked out, the walkie talkie went off, apparently the cleaner had already inspected my room within the 2 minutes between when I left the room and when I reached the front desk, and the front desk did not hesitate to ask to charge me. Initially, I wasn't going to complain about the water as I believed they were just cleaning their water tanks. Thankfully, I took a video of the dirty tap water and showed them; they waived the charge. But it's the way they immediately rushed to find potential evidence of my misuse of the room and the mannerism when they asked to charge me that was really off-putting. Not great customer service.

Helpful reception staff, the rest is very poor. problems with water, not working AC (awful experience in July, trust me), huge stairs at the main entrance (cannot bring the suitcase without help, but there is nobody there from the hotel staff!), broken furniture and even front door of the room, old (and not clean) bed linen, leaking shower cabin. cannot recommend

I was a little skeptical at first, thinking it would be old. In the end, I booked it because of the location. Overall, I am satisfied. Generally, airline crews will choose hotels for their stay, so they won't be too bad. It's not far from the cable car station, about a 20-minute walk. It's also not far from the Cathedral, a 15-18-minute walk. I am a bit picky. The facilities are acceptable and clean. The room is quite satisfactory. The breakfast buffet is average.

The location is very good, in a quiet place in the city center. Just over 1 km walk to the north is the Ascension Cathedral and 28 Warriors Park, about 1 km walk to the west and south is the Central Museum, and less than 1 km walk to the east and south is the Peak Tram Station. The room is also very good. Although it is old, the equipment is well maintained. The wash basin, shower head, and toilet are all very useful and do not look dilapidated. I like their swimming pool and gym the most. The pool water is clear and the fitness equipment is very good.

Best hotel to stay in Almaty. Reasonable price for 5 stars with a variety of breakfast. Spa facilities were great - the hotel pool, sauna and jacuzzi were amazing!

Super comfortable hotel, quiet and elegant environment, delicious breakfast, once only for receiving foreign ministers, now open to the public, super location, convenient to go anywhere.

The room is clean and spacious, and the front desk and service staff are warm and friendly

I have booked this hotel after reading reviews, however to my surprise the stay was horrible. From the checkin to checkout our 3N/4D was not upto the mark at all. It was my wife's birthday so I requested for some surprise, we supposed to checkin on same, I called a day before and requested for a surprise cake and flowers in the room. However when we checked it was 4-5 flowers in the vase and 4-5 assorted pastries in the room, with no birthday message, seems some leftover pastries from breakfast buffet. Now lets talk about room, rooms are smaller not comfortable as shown in pictures and not so comfortable, their Air conditioner was not working, we almost spent all 3N in sweat and according to them AC is fine and excuse was given by the hotel that it is too hot outside. :). Water spilling from the AC duct on the room floor everyday, we have to call house keeping to clean that, it was an exercise to call House keeping and explain them, what has happened, since they don't know any other language apart from Russian. Housekeeping/ Room Service was equally bad. It is so difficult to even ask for towel/shower gel, nobody speak English. You have to call at reception then they will tell housekeeping regarding the request, wait time at least 15 - 20 mins. Now Buffet Breakfast, it is like a nightmare specially for Indians, with not much options, I will not recommend this hotel to Indians and specially if you are vegetarian. The Dostyk is a good high end hotel with great amenities including an indoor swimming pool. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The hotel is located within walking distance of many of the sights of Almaty and there are plenty of dinning options available nearby.

I had to fly to Almaty on family business. Hotel itself is trendy, historical building. Inside is really nice, clean. Front desk folks are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Rooms looks exactly as on photos. Each room has electric cattle, 2 bottles of water for each occupant. They refill tea, coffee, water every day. If you ask, they can bring you thus any time. I have to say their 24 hours room service is great. I bought room with breakfast. Highly recommend. Menu/ buffet is good. You can order omelets or oatmeal. One thing, though. Menu does not change at all. So, if you stayed few days, you will be fine. I stayed 10 days. It kind got boring after 4 days. Never the less, breakfast is good. Housekeeping is great! They really clean your room, disinfect. They change sheets every other day, towels every day. A lot of toilettes: shampoo, conditioner, body wash gel, body and hands creams, shower cap, even hair comb. You can pre order transfer from and to airport. They met me with the sign. It was great. Really great hotel. I will highly recommend to stay there.
