Absolut beautiful place! Old farmhouse, that is still owned by the family. The garden is stunning and they even have their own fish pond. The food is fresh delicious and homemade.I recommend to see the Backwaters by canoe and have a relaxing massage afterwards.

The beautiful heritage property is intimate with just seven rooms. It is right on the water and has a lovely fruit and nut tree garden surrounding it as well as a rice paddy to the back. The room was very comfortable with a nice elevated alcove, and an outdoor private bathroom where you can hear the birds in the morning or the stars at night. The food was delicious and served family style at one long table shared with the other guests, so people fell into conversation easily with one another. The staff was wonderful and friendly. Thanks for a memorable stay!

A fantastic place to stay with a charming host who is the great-grandson of the original owner. Lovely rooms, beautiful grounds with many interesting spice trees and coconut palms, with paddy fields out the back and a backwater at the front.

Really attentive and kind staff. Excellent service and food was delicious. Host was very informative and conversed on the region, his gardens and the property heritage. Rooms all very unique and very comfortable and clean. Loved the outside bathrooms. Definitely recommended.

Lovely place to stay right in the backwaters. Nice quiet rooms with fab outside shower and shady veranda. Friendly staff and great food. The outdoor communal dining space was great to meet other travellers and share stories. The owner had studied in london and was very communicative and helpful. We enjoyed the Ayurvedic massage and tuktuk tour of the area.

Vijo was a very warm and welcoming host, the building was built buy his great grandfather and carries a lot of history which he shared with us, making for beautiful rooms lined with dark wood walls, a peaceful shower with an open roof so you can shower under the rain or sun! The most delicious food and all the other staff also very friendly. Many activities are available. A comfortable bed, very clean and a good nights sleep. Cannot recommend enough, we can’t wait to return.

We had a very nice, cozy & beautiful stay with a super friendly family, who serves the delicious traditional & authentic local kerala cuisine. They have many activities to enjoy such as Shikara ride, kayaking, house-boating, cycling, massage etc. And the surrounding area is full of great nature & chirping birds & beautiful flowers etc. We are very happy to recommend this place. 😊

We stayed for two nights here. It’s a lovely location on the waterfront. We made the most of the facilities using the bikes before breakfast and also an afternoon Kayak ride through the canals with a guide. We also took the government ferry boat one morning up to the nearest small town. The staff at Emerald Isle are extremely professional and helpful. We enjoyed three meals at the homestead and they were well cooked and plentiful at a competitive price. They don’t mind you taking your own drinks and will chill for you. It’s a lovely place and gives you an opportunity to easily see the local life of the residents and workers around the backwaters.

An authentic property surrounded by friendly local people in the heart of the backwaters in Kerala. Various types of accommodation but the cottage is best. Typical local food but may not be to everyone’s taste but affordable. Property can suffer from a lack of hot water but not really an issue especially if staying a short period. Really helpful and friendly staff….our 2nd visit.
