📍 Itinerary Overview: Central and South Jakarta have lots of historical sites, places to eat, and shopping options. Chinatown is full of life and places to eat.
🚩 Sightseeing Route: Avoid the Old Town. The main square and buildings have been closed off with metal barriers and security to prevent access. The rest is shabby and run down.
🏖️ Must-Visit Attractions: National Monument, Jakarta Cathedral, and Istiqlal Mosque

🚇 Transportation: Bus stops are unmissable. They are raised platforms. Buses are frequent and cheap. There is an attendant working at each stop, so as soon as you look like you don't know what you are doing, they come over to help.
📷 Photo Spots: The Cathedral and Mosque are in close proximity to each other.
🍜 Local Cuisine: Hard to find local cuisine. It's mainly big chains and shopping malls, but keep looking around back streets behind malls. They are full of street venders.
🏠 Accommodation: As expected, there are hotels all over. Many seem to be more expensive than other parts of South East Asia, but there is a range of prices.

💡 Tips: Buy a bus travel card if you intend on seeing a lot of the city. The city is huge and tiring to travel on foot. The bus travel card is very cheap.

As I wandered through the historic streets of Old Town Batavia, I felt like I had stepped back in time. The charming buildings, with their Dutch colonial architecture, seemed to whisper stories of the past. I visited the iconic Jakarta Old Town Museum, housed in a beautifully restored 18th-century building, and marveled at the exhibits showcasing the city's rich history.

The area's cobblestone streets and old churches added to the nostalgic atmosphere, while the nearby Kali Besar River offered a glimpse into the city's trading past. I visited this place for the first time on my trip to Jakarta.
It took about 40 minutes by Grab from the city center to get there.

The park is quite large, so if you want to explore it thoroughly, you should allow at least half a day for it.
There are many attractions, including a zoo, aquarium, art museum, and Balinese-style buildings.

Tickets can be purchased at the entrance, but cash payments are not accepted, and it is recommended to purchase tickets online in advance to ensure smooth entry.
In addition, tickets must be purchased separately at the entrance to each facility (ranging from IDR 10,000 to 100,000).

The park was very crowded with locals.
I walked everywhere, so it was a good workout, but it seems that bicycles and carts are also available for rental, so you may want to use those.
It was very hot, so I bought water frequently from vending machines and shops to stay hydrated.

There is a beautiful souvenir shop near the entrance, so you can look for something to commemorate the occasion.
If you come to Jakarta, it would be worth planning this as one of your tourist spots.

You can enjoy the culture of Indonesia, including traditional buildings, batik, the national animal Komodo dragon, cannons and castles.
It is very satisfying, and I think it is also worth visiting for a walk or picnic on the weekend.

With final exams being over and a close friend “coincidentally” having some errands to do in Jakarta, me and my friends got the perfect excuse to go on a Jakarta trip.

Right after landing, we decided to head towards one-of-my-friend’s top requested Sushi place in Jakarta. Located at the prestigious area of PIK, the taste of the food at this restaurant definitely did not disappoint us. To this date, I think this is still the best Sushi place that I’ve tried in Indonesia.

The next day, I was meeting with another friend and decided to grab some lunch at a Thai restaurant. It was pretty decent for a Thai food place in Indonesia.

Starting a new day, our group was pretty keen on trying a famous steak restaurant that has a pretty high reputation. When we arrived, the place was pretty full and since we didn’t reserved a table, we weren’t able to grab a spot. Disappointed and hangry, we moved to another steak place close by. Food portions were very small with a price that definitely did not match the portion sizes. Tasted pretty decent but we were quite bummed since we came with high expectations for the previous steak restaurant and that expectations followed through to this place.

On the last day, we decided to try the viral (at the time of visit) cafe before heading back to the airport. The drink was fine and the pastries were quite decent. Nothing super memorable.

That was all the food me and my friends tried during our trip to Jakarta. We definitely had other food but since I can’t find a picture for those, I won’t bother writing about it here. Be it as it may, since it was a trip with my best friends, the trip was a joyful memory for me. Hence, I decided to write about it here to keep the memories somewhere I can hopefully visit in the future to reminisce about.
