Bugis Singapore, a spiritual district with shopping and food all in one!
🇸🇬 Review of Bugis area, Singapore – a spiritual district with shopping and food all in one!
✨ A must-visit for spiritual seekers
Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, where locals come to sincerely pray for health, work, and financial blessings. The fortune sticks here are also famously accurate.
How to pray:
🙏🏻 Follow the arrows inside, take 3 incense sticks, light them, then face away from the temple to pay respect to heaven and earth first. After that, place the incense sticks in the pot in front of the temple.
🙏🏻 Walk inside to the right (arrows guide you). If you want to draw a fortune stick, take a fortune stick container from the counter on the right side. There are also Seng Pua sticks for divination; if you don’t want to use them, just don’t take any.
If you don’t want to draw a fortune stick, just go inside to pray and exit on the left.
🙏🏻 Before shaking the fortune sticks, make a wish or say your name, birthdate, age, and address.
🙏🏻 After getting the fortune stick, give it to the uncle behind the counter. He will pick the prediction according to the number you got.
🍛 For food lovers, we recommend the local hawker stalls at Albert Food Centre.
Recommended stalls:
👍🏻 Stall No. 45 — The owner is kind and speaks Thai well. This stall has even received a Michelin Guide recognition.
👍🏻 Bak Chor Mee (minced meat noodles) Stall No. 106 — The shrimp balls are very delicious.
👍🏻 Prawn Noodle Stall No. 108 — The broth smells fragrant with shrimp. If you order small prawns, they come peeled for easy eating.
🛍️ For shoppers
📌 Bugis Junction and Bugis+ are malls that have almost every brand you could want.
📌 Bugis Street has a flea market vibe, selling clothes and various souvenirs, similar to Pratunam market in Thailand.
There are also cool photo spots here, and you can walk to Haji Lane easily—it’s not far.
🚇 Most convenient transportation
Take the MRT to Bugis Station, accessible via both the blue line (Downtown) and green line (East-West). It’s very easy to travel to other parts of the city from here.
💬 Personally, I think
Bugis should definitely be on your must-visit list because it has everything you need. It’s in the city center, making it easy to get anywhere, or you can choose to stay at a hotel around here for convenience.
