Wat Phra That Chom Mok Kaew, Chiang Rai Province
Phra That Chom Mok Kaew, Chiang Rai Province
There is no evidence of when it was built, but there is a story that more than 100 years ago, the villagers who settled in that area went to find food in the forest and found a termite mound that looked like a pagoda. It was located on a small hill. In that area, there were many trees that northerners call "Som Poi" trees that were leaning like Nagas. They also found broken pottery scattered all over the area. The villagers therefore came to worship the termite mound. Anyone who wanted to do anything in the forest in this area must come to worship and ask for permission first. Otherwise, various things will happen. The villagers in that area believe that the termite mound contains the ashes of ancient royals. It is assumed that the chedi was built to cover the termite mound later.
When worshipping Phra That Doi Chom Mok Kaew, it is believed that obstacles that are like black smoke will disappear as if you worship and pray and make a wish, and you will be successful.
