Lantern Festival Information
• Dates: The lighting ceremony will kick off on January 17, 2025. From February 5–12, the park will be open from 16:00–23:00, with the lanterns lit from 18:00. From February 13–May 5, the park will be open from 17:00–22:30, with the lanterns lit from 18:30. Closing time will be extended to 23:00 on Fridays, Saturdays, and public holidays.

Zigong is a city close to me. I had heard of it before, but only started to pay attention to it in the past two years. I remember the first time I went there was to visit the Salt Industry History Museum, and the second time was to see the lantern festival, which left a deep impression on me and made me want to go again. This time, I finally got to see this visual feast again during the Lunar New Year holiday.
The Zigong Lantern Festival has a long history, dating back to the Tang and Song dynasties when people in the Zigong area had the custom of celebrating the New Year by watching lanterns. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Zigong Lantern Festival had further developed into various festivals and became a grand folk festival in the Bashu area. Today, the Zigong Lantern Festival has gone global and become the world's number one lantern festival.
After a year, the lantern festival is still as stunning as ever. The various lantern sets are still made with great precision, and the combination of dynamic and static lantern sets is even more beautiful. The snake year lantern set "Qingcheng Shuangshu" is undoubtedly the biggest highlight of this year's lantern festival.
The entire scenic area is a huge park. After checking the tickets, you can choose to enter from the west gate, where you will see the "Joyful Gate" lantern set. Further ahead, there are two roads, one on the left leading to the north gate lantern set, and one on the right leading to the main park lantern sets. It is recommended to go right first, then head towards the north gate, which is at a higher elevation and offers a panoramic view of the entire lantern festival park.

|Zigong is China's first lantern festival. The Zigong Lantern Festival is known as the No. 1 Lantern Festival in China. I brought my kids here on the second day of the Chinese New Year.
❤Overall impression:
[One] There are really a lot of people. Unless you come in the morning, your car will not be able to park in the afternoon. You need to take a shuttle bus. You can learn about the relevant routes first and make plans.
[Two] Tickets need to be purchased in advance. If you don’t buy them, another wave of tickets will be released after 8pm.
[Three] Let’s eat first. There are so many people here. All the restaurants around are full.
[Four] The lights are really shocking and different from what we usually see. They have a cyberpunk feel and the kids like them very much.
[Five] The Lantern Festival lasts until May. If you have time, you can come after the New Year. During the Spring Festival, housing prices almost tripled.

Transportation: Since we were traveling with our kids, we wanted to make the entire trip less stressful. Taking public transportation is time-consuming and laborious, so we chose a Ctrip chartered car tour, with the driver serving as our guide. He is well-informed about the local activities and route planning, drives steadily, and his humorous and witty explanations make the journey full of laughter. The Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Festival opened on January 17. This is the 31st lantern festival.
This year's lantern festival is themed "Lanterns Celebrate China, A Myriad of Wonders" and features seven themed areas, 12 extra-large lantern displays, 7 large lantern displays, and over 200 medium and small lantern displays, making it the largest lantern festival to date.
1⃣️Intangible cultural heritage: The lantern festival incorporates intangible cultural heritage such as porcelain, Sichuan opera, colorful lanterns, blow molding, and paper cutting.
2⃣️Technology: Cutting-edge technology such as artificial intelligence is used to create AI mechanical dinosaur lanterns and the "Dinosaur Valley" scenic area.
3⃣️Park activities: 600 drones perform every night. After the Spring Festival, there will be special themed performances every weekend and on important holidays.
4⃣️Food: The lantern festival features famous intangible cultural heritage and specialty food brands from all over the country, with nearly 100 specialty restaurants on site, allowing visitors to experience "Sichuan food, Zigong flavor."

Ticket prices: During the first to fifteenth days of the first lunar month, adult tickets are CNY 168 each, and senior and student tickets are CNY 98 each. From January 18–27, February 13, and after, adult tickets are CNY 118 each, and senior and student tickets are CNY 80 each.

Arrive early to queue, it's very crowded during the Spring Festival.
The west gate is the most convenient, but also the most crowded.
Keep an eye on children, it's easy to get separated in the crowd.
