Wat Phanan Choeng is an ancient and important temple in Ayutthaya. It is famous throughout the country, especially Luang Pho To or Chao Pho Sam Pok Kong, which both Thai and Chinese Buddhists have respected for a long time. When you come to this temple, it is not strange to see many people coming to pay homage to Luang Pho To.
Points of interest Luang Pho To or Phra Phuttha Trairattanayok is a Buddha statue in the late U Thong art style, in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, sitting cross-legged. The lap width is 14.20 meters and the height is 19.20 meters. The material is stucco, lacquered, and gilded. Luang Pho To or Phra Phuttha Trairattanayok or Phra To of the Ayutthaya people is considered an ancient Buddha statue that has been a symbol of the city of Ayutthaya since the beginning of its establishment. The Chronicles of Ayutthaya, Luang Prasert Aksornnithi version, states that it was built in 1868, or 26 years after King Ramathibodi I founded Ayutthaya. When Ayutthaya was about to fall, it was reported in the testimony of the Ayutthaya people that the large Buddha statue at Wat Phanan Choeng miraculously had tears flowing from his eyes. Luang Pho To is one of the most respected Buddha images among the Chinese people, and is called “Sam Po Kong”. In addition to Thais, there are also many Chinese descendants who come to pay homage and worship regularly every year.
✨Every year, Wat Phanan Choeng Worawihan holds a water pouring and cloth offering ceremony around April. There is also a ceremony to pour water and change the cloth for the Buddha image. The old cloth that has been used for the whole year will be torn into small pieces and distributed to people to worship. If anyone visits Ayutthaya, don’t forget to come to worship the Buddha, ask for blessings, increase your merit, and increase your fortune at this temple.
