Located at Yide Road near the Haizhu Square in the city center, this 130-year-old Roman Catholic cathedral is a holy and peaceful site in the bustling urban area. The cathedral was designed by two French architects, and completed by Chinese craftsmen within 25 years from 1863 to 1888. Featuring all of the walls and pillars made of granite, the Sacred Heart Cathedral is nicknamed the ‘Stone House’ (Shishi in Chinese) by the locals. It is the largest granite Catholic structure in Southeast Asia, and one of only four all-granite Gothic churches in the world.

Take the Guangzhou Metro to Exit B1 of Haizhu Square Station, cross the zebra crossing and walk forward for about ten minutes. Keep to the right and you will find the church! Nowadays, many young men and women like to visit here. The church building is magnificent and has a unique appearance. If you have an aerial camera, you can also see the huge cross design built on the roof of the church. It is worth visiting!

The façade of the cathedral was modelled on the Basilica of St. Clotilde in Paris and its nave and apse were inspired by the Toul Cathedral. The cathedral features a nave of 28.2 metres high, flanked by two lower aisles and 14 small side-chapels. With a floor area of 2,924 square metres, it is the largest Roman Catholic church in the Guangzhou archdiocese and the largest cathedral in the Gothic style in China and Southeast Asia. The cathedral is 32.85 metres wide, 77.17 metres long, and the twin towers rise 52.76 metres high. The west tower is a clock tower while the east tower serves as a bell tower, inside which there used to be five large bells shipped in from France in the 19th century, although nowadays only four remain as one was given to a local church in Guangxi province in the early 1980s.#本地遊

This is an actual church church 🙃 that still holds services🙏🏽. It was a shocker because I was not aware of that until I got there and they were in the middle of worship, felt a bit awkward because I was just there for sightseeing. So I attached the mass schedule for those interested to attend. Aside from that, it's an interesting place to view the architecture in my non-professional architectural advice 🤭. Located in the Yuexiu district, transportation I think is easy. weekender trip to the city is always a breeze.. this time I brought a friend who never been to older part of the city and she like to have a look at the famous Stone House a.k.a the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It's located at the northern bank of the Pearl River, at 56 Yide Rd (一德路56号). Although I have been here for several times.. the magnificent masterpiece never failed to impress me. I get to know its one of the few cathedrals in the world to be entirely built of granite, including all the walls, pillars, and the twin towers. absolutely grand right? Built in 1860s, it is the largest roman Catholic church in the Guangzhou archdiocese and the largest cathedral in the Gothic style in China as well as Southeast Asia. The cathedral is 32.85 metres wide, 77.17 metres long, and the twin towers rise 52.76 metres high. There's this cafe right in front of the Cathedral, where one can have coffee in a nice spacious surroundings with the view of the cafe. And sometimes I felt it's quite the feeling of Parisian atmospheric overlooking the towers of the cathedral. definitely recommended!

Sacred Heart Cathedral is located at 56, Yide Road, Yuexiu District,Guangzhou, China. Travel back to the 19th century as you step onto the square in front of Guangzhou's Sacred Heart Cathedral. Apparently the largest all-granite church in the world, the Gothic cathedral, nicknamed the Stone House, 石室, was first constructed in the 1860s, led by French missionaries. At the time, its spires towered over the surrounding buildings and locals allegedly feared it would damage the feng shui of the area. Now it is dwarfed by nearby skyscrapers and cannot be seen from very far, but once on the square, it still dominates its immediate neighbourhood. It was damaged in the Second World War and used as a warehouse during the Cultural Revolution, but it has since been well restored, including new stained glass windows and a better quality roof. The sharp double spires have become a symbol of Guangzhou, featuring alongside Canton Tower and the Five Goats statue in Yuexiu Park in posters and advertising throughout the city. The cathedral is sometimes open for sightseeing or private prayer between mass, but the main gate seems to be open somewhat sporadically. The square outside the gate is the best place to view the whole façade though and is a popular spot for selfies in Old Canton. The Sacred Heart Cathedral is a short walk from Haizhu Square 海珠广场站 and Yidelu 一德路站 metro stations.
