The official name of Shimogamo Shrine is Kamomioya Shrine, and it is located in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City. It is also commonly known as Shimogamo Shrine.
Because it is enshrined downstream of the Kamo River in Kyoto, the people of Kyoto affectionately call it "Shimogamo Shrine" or "Shimogamo-san".
Both the east and west main halls are designated as national treasures.
Numerous festivals are held throughout the year, from the "New Year's Day Festival" on New Year's Day to the "Joyasai" and "Oharai Ceremony" on New Year's Eve, there are more than 60 festivals, and the "Monthly Festival" is also held on the first of each month.
In terms of benefits, Aioi-no-Yashiro, a branch shrine of Shimogamo Shrine, is famous as a power spot for matchmaking. The two sacred trees beside the shrine are connected to one another along the way, and it is said to bring good luck in matchmaking, safe childbirth, childcare, and family harmony.
The Himemamori charms given out at the shrine office are very popular as matchmaking charms, so they make great souvenirs as well as personal items.
Shimogamo Shrine is also said to bring good luck in beauty, and is a blessed shrine where you can be beautiful in both body and mind.
If you go to Kyoto, be sure to visit, and regardless of gender, you should refresh yourself with a clean mind and a refreshed body, and move forward toward a new love (or an ongoing love).
If you use a one-day city bus pass (700 yen) to get to Shimogamo Shrine, you can also visit many other tourist attractions. Kyoto has a wide variety of bus routes, so if you plan your schedule wisely, you can save time and money while still having a lot of fun.
