｜200 per person. I went to Guangzhou with my friends on the weekend to hang out with the kids, eat authentic Guangzhou food🤤, and spend a day visiting all the attractions in Guangzhou. It was really satisfying❤️. Experience the slow life and market atmosphere of old Guangzhou in Lao Xiguan, go to Shamian to see the retro buildings and feel the romantic atmosphere, go to Chen Clan Academy to see history and read "Seven Verses", go to Liuhua Lake to stroll and enjoy the flowers 🌸, each place is a direct subway route for eating, drinking and having fun. You can see the dim sum made by the chef at the door. My friends and I ordered a table full of dim sum, all of which were very delicious. We enjoyed the delicious morning tea while drinking tea 🫖. The shrimp dumplings 🥟 were very chewy and big, the steamed chicken feet with soy sauce were very soft, the spare ribs, white scallop dumplings, rice noodle rolls, egg tarts 🥧, and red date cakes were all delicious 😋. 🍲🍧There is rice porridge It was really fun to walk to this rice porridge hotpot 🥘 restaurant on Xihua Road at noon. At the same time, I could also have ice cream 🍦🆓. 🔥🍻Tianbao Food Court Another delicious food hidden in Xihua Road is Tianbao Food Court, which opens at 5:30 in the evening. There is a long queue of old Cantonese people at the door. They use fresh ingredients to make fresh food, and the secret sauce is cooked in a sizzling pot. You can smell it. I ordered the sizzling eel, garlic oysters, wet fried beef noodles, and reed root and bamboo sugarcane juice. It is very flavorful and the meat is refreshing! The oysters are big and plump!

Booked my flights with China Southern Airlines via Trip.com for my first venture to Guangzhou city. Also booked my hotel stay at Ji Hotel (All Seasons, Quan Ji) for 3 nights with breakfast. Shamian is a sandbank island on the southern edge of Liwan District in Guangzhou. Situated on the riverside of the Pearl River, the area was, for centuries, a foreign trading post. Shamian’s role as the conduit of trade spanned the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was also a place of leisure and tourism as well. In the more recent 19th century, Shamian was a location of heavy foreign presence. Many countries have set up their consular offices in this area. In fact, the Polish Consulate of Guangzhou is still in Shamian today. Needless to say, it was also a prime location for business operations, such as foreign banks and trader offices (the “Hongs”—like the Thirteen Factories). This would be the appropriate moment to bring back the memory of the Thirteen Hongs of Canton. This history is closely related to Shamian as we know it now. In 1856, the Second Opium War broke out. Great Britain launched extensive firepower against Guangzhou. This touched off a wave of local protests that resulted in the Thirteen Factories Enclave being burnt to the ground. The Second Opium War would last till 1860, during this time the British had taken control of Guangzhou. Given Shamian’s historic role as a trading post, it came as no surprise that Shamian was eyed by the foreign powers as their foothold in Guangzhou. Shamian became a concession area for Great Britain and France beginning in the 11th year of the Xianfeng Reign (1861). The British abandoned the plans for rebuilding the Thirteen Factories Enclave, and instead looked to build Shamian. Allow for at least two hours to walk through all the streets in Shamian. #urbanwanderings This place is named after The Face of Sand in Chinese. It is a small area within Guangzhou city. I guess we took about 25mins taxi journey to come over. I would say can just spend about 1-2hours here as this area is full of nice building for photo but mot so much for stopping by for coffee or even shopping. Shamian Island is my favourite place in Guangzhou and it was my safe haven during my 6 months living there, it was an oasis of calm in such a chaotic city. The Island was divided into concessions given to France and the UK in the 19th century and foreigners lived and worked on the island to help support the export of Chinese products. The island is separated from the mainland by a small river and this created a self contained zone that allowed western nations to establish trade missions without ‘being present’ on the mainland. Ultimately America, France, Holland, Italy, Germany, Portugal, japan and the UK had a presence on the island in big stone mansions along the water. The buildings now house cafes, restaurants and shops and has become a surreal tourist destination, the buildings lining the street were built in the style of their respective western powers so it feels like you could be in Paris, London or Amsterdam. The buildings are grand and imposing as each nation tried to outdo the other with their architectural styles, leaving tree lined boulevards lined with buildings that stand out against the Chinese city that has developed around them. You can reach the island via the Huangsha metro station and then walking over an overpass, also many bus routes have stops just outside the bridge that links the island to greater Guangzhou.
