The National Museum of Belgrade is also known as the National Museum of Serbia. Located on the north side of the Republic Square, this neo-Renaissance-style building is itself a city landmark. Founded in 1844, as a very old museum in the Balkans, its 400,000 collections span the art from the Paleolithic Age to the 20th century, especially the medieval fresco collection and the Yugoslav modern art exhibition area. The famous "Miroslav Gospel" is housed in this museum. The underground floor has a special ancient coin exhibition hall, which fully presents the evolution of currency from the Roman Empire to the Ottoman period. It is recommended to reserve 2-3 hours for the visit, and an English audio guide can be rented at the entrance. The building is fully air-conditioned, making it comfortable to visit in summer. It is adjacent to the Skadarja pedestrian street. After the visit, you can walk a few minutes to the traditional restaurant to taste Serbian barbecue.
