#BeautifulChurch The Madonna del Sasso Monastery, located in the Orselina district of Locarno, is the most well-known Catholic pilgrimage site in the Ticino region of southern Switzerland, bordering Italy. In addition to its large size, the monastery is located high up on a hill, with Lake Maggiore in the background, surrounded by mountains. It looks so peaceful and beautiful that you have to take lots of pictures. The monastery was founded after a Franciscan priest, Father Bartholomeo da Ivrea, had a vision of the Virgin Mary in 1480. The architecture here is in the Baroque style, which originated in Italy. Inside, there are wall paintings, exquisite marble carvings, and a wooden sculpture of The Last Supper. In front is a wide courtyard where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding area. There is also a museum in the same area. To get here, if you drive, there is a parking lot about 300 meters away. This small funicular railway operates from the center of Locarno and is the most comfortable and romantic way to visit the Sacred Mount of Sasso, as well as the starting point for a charming tour of the Locarno hill region. Riding the beautiful vintage cable car from 1958 is a delightful experience, complete with all its original elements. The control panel, doors that can't be closed, and old seats make the small cable car easily fill up, but it's a fun journey. It takes you to the pilgrimage site of Madonna del Sasso, where you can then stroll along the hillside paths. If you plan to return after visiting the summit, be sure to keep the paper ticket they issue, as the driver will check each ticket individually.

I did it by Post bus with a tour group, so no chance to stop along the way at either the amazing dam or the jumping bridge. Sonogno itself is quite charming. Ascona is adjacent to Lake Maggiore and on the other side is France. In Ascona, explore the interesting shops in the winding alleys of the stone road, or take a walk along the blue lake Maggiore, or sit in the open-air stalls of the colorful lake.
