A day trip to Pisa: Leaning Tower, Cathedral and hidden gems
#ItinerarySharing
When you come to Florence, it is recommended to arrange a day trip to the town of Pisa to enjoy this small town full of historical charm. This time we took a train from the city and arrived at Pisa S. Rossore Station. It took about 10 minutes to walk to the central area where the Leaning Tower of Pisa is located. (Detailed transportation information will be provided at the end of the article) ~ Since we arrived early before our scheduled visit, we decided to find a cafe on the map and take a leisurely rest ~
Let's get to the point. The Leaning Tower of Pisa (Torre di Pisa) is located in Pisa, Tuscany, Italy. It is located on the Piazza dei Miracoli, which is known as a World Heritage Site. In addition to the famous Leaning Tower, there are many historical buildings here, including the Pisa Cathedral (Cattedrale di Pisa), the Baptistery of St. John (Battistero di San Giovanni), and the Pisa Cemetery (Camposanto Monumentale). If time permits, I highly recommend visiting the Cathedral. The church combines Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles, and cleverly incorporates Byzantine and Islamic design details. The church's exterior facade is made of white marble, embellished with exquisite stone carvings and patterns, and its unique multi-arch facade is its iconic feature. The interior is equally fascinating, stately and artistic, and really worth taking the time to appreciate.
You need to book a visit time in advance to climb the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We selected the time on the official website in advance, so be sure to keep track of the time when taking photos. (You need to deposit your luggage before climbing the tower, and the storage service is free of charge.) The tower has a total of about 294 steps. Compared with climbing to the top of the Duomo, this time is really much easier. The most interesting thing during the climb to the top is that due to the inclination of the tower, everyone will unconsciously lean to the left when climbing, and the steps also have obvious height differences. When climbing, you can really feel the unique pace experience caused by the inclination, which is very fun.
After finishing our trip to the Square of Miracles, we randomly found a restaurant on the main street for dinner. Italian food is really delicious no matter what you order! This time we ordered the calzone which is like an enlarged version of dumplings. It tasted really good. Of course, we couldn’t miss a glass of Aperol Spritz to go with it. After eating, we wandered around the alleys of the town, taking photos, eating ice cream, and feeling the leisurely atmosphere here. Finally, we walked all the way back to Pisa Centrale Station and took the train back to the city. The whole day's trip was relaxing and enjoyable, fulfilling and not rushed. I was able to fully experience this town and tourist attractions. Highly recommended!
