Hong Kong Hiking 14th Stop - Phoenix Trail Section 1 and 2
During the Miscanthus season, you must come to Phoenix Trail Mountain!
The first section of Phoenix Trail, from Mui Wo Food Court to Nam Shan (L001-005), is all along the road. If you are not planning to walk the entire Phoenix Trail early in the morning, you can completely skip this section.
The second section runs from Nanshan to Bogong'ao (L005-018), passing through Erdongshan, Lantouying and Dadongshan. It is the most famous section for admiring Miscanthus.
Take the 3M bus from Tung Chung to Nanshan Campground, which is the entrance to Section 2 (Figure 4). The next section of the road is a mountain trail shaded by trees (Figure 5), which is not very difficult. Here you can overlook the sea view (Figures 6 and 7). There is also a mountain spring shaded by bamboo forests on the mountain (Figure 8).
The second section passes through three viewing platforms along the way (Figure 9): Erdongshan Viewing Platform, Dadongshan First Viewing Platform and Second Viewing Platform.
At the fork in the road of L011 (Figure 10), you can turn right and climb the 766-meter-high Lotus Mountain (Figures 11 and 12). The mountain is very steep, so we chose another route to go down the mountain. Although it is a long detour, it is safer. Along the way, we climbed up to Sanshan Terrace (Figure 13), which is 728 meters high.
At the fork in the road, turn left and you can climb up Erdong Mountain. The road is very steep, but the Miscanthus on the top of the mountain is extremely beautiful. It is easier to take pictures than Dadong Mountain, and most importantly, there are fewer people. Not far ahead is the internet celebrity check-in spot, Lantouying. (Figures 1, 2, 14-19)
Continuing forward we reached Dadong Mountain, where more and more people started to appear. Especially from Tiaobanshi to Bogongao, there is a constant stream of people. The stepping stone is always the place where the most tourists gather (Figure 20).
