I took the Sunrise Izumo, currently Japan's only sleeper express train, to Izumo Taisha Shrine in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. I arrived in Izumo City the next morning, comfortably travelling in a hotel-like carriage without any transfers from Tokyo. After worshiping, I was able to experience the history and culture of Izumo by enjoying local specialties at the souvenir shops and teahouses around the grounds.

I took Greater Bay Area Airlines and arrived at Yonago Airport in the afternoon. After getting the rental car, I went to Gegege no Kitaro Street for some shopping. However, it might be winter, as soon as the sun sets at around 5 o'clock, the shops start to close. Basically, all shops are closed after 6 o'clock. We stayed at Kaike Onsen Hotel on the first night. Dinner was a buffet, which was delicious. On the second day, I went to the Dashan Ski Resort. As a novice, I had been watching YouTube videos teaching how to snowboard. I also had experience in skateboarding, so I got the hang of it the first time. Although I fell several times, the snow at the ski resort is not hard and it doesn’t hurt much if I fall. On the second night, we stayed at the Hotel. This meal was a kaiseki meal, using local ingredients and also half a snow crab. Overall, it was 10 points for high quality 🩷 On the third day, we went to the 20th Century Pear Museum and the Hakuto Shrine, and finally to the Tottori Sand Dunes. Unfortunately, it rained that day, or more accurately, it was hail. Plus, the wind blew at the seaside, and the hailstones hit my face and it was very painful.. We stayed for a while and then left. On the third night, we stayed in a business hotel in downtown Tottori. The room was quite small. In the evening, I went to the yakiniku restaurant in Tottori City. The most unforgettable one was the Kintai Bridge in Iwakuni City. Utsubuki Park near Kurayoshi and the Tottori Nichisei Pear Memorial Museum were also in full bloom with cherry blossoms and pear blossoms, which was a beautiful sight. There is a giant shimenawa rope weighing 5 tons in front of the Kagura Hall of Izumo Taisha Shrine. Tottori Castle Ruins and Hisamatsu Park are not crowded, so you can enjoy them carefully and slowly. Himeji Castle is too crowded and not as beautiful. One day, we had an oyster-themed dinner at Banshu Ako Onsen Hotel, which was very satisfying.

Trip with my daughter who is in elementary school. We went to Izumo Taisha Shrine first thing in the morning. We rented bicycles and went to Inasa Beach and Shimane Winery. Izumo soba is the best! We also had zenzai. In Matsue, we stayed at Shinjiko Onsen and went up to Matsue Castle. The cherry blossoms were beautiful. We also went to Vogel Park and were very satisfied. We just didn't have enough time. Finally, we went to Tamatsukuri Onsen! It's a small hot spring town, but it's famous for its hot springs that are good for your skin. It's a shame that we didn't have much time to stay there. It's far from Tokyo, but we were able to ride the Yakumo, and in Shimane we bought a 2-day free pass so we could use various means of transportation freely. We'll definitely go again. Recommended. It was a wonderful spring break that made me feel like I was traveling for the first time in a while.
