Five-day and four-night Fukushima Koriyama adventure: a wonderful time traveling between nature and culture
🏨 Day 1: Arrival in Koriyama and first acquaintance with the charm of the city
As soon as you get off the Shinkansen, you can feel the fresh air and quiet rhythm of Koriyama. Stay at Hotel Crown Hills Koriyama, located in the city center. It has convenient transportation and is close to a variety of facilities, including the station, convenience stores, and izakayas.
I took a stroll in Kaiseiyama Park in the afternoon. Although it was not cherry blossom season, the park was full of greenery and the lake was sparkling. For dinner, we chose to taste the local cuisine of Fukushima at an izakaya in Koriyama Ekimae Yokocho. We especially recommend the grilled Kitakata ramen dumplings and the pure rice sake of the local sake "Daishichi Sake Brewery". The mellow taste is the perfect start to the journey.

🏞 Day 2: Aizuwakamatsu Historical Tour
Take the train to Aizuwakamatsu early in the morning, a city full of history.
First, visit Tsuruga Castle. The castle tower with white walls and red tiles is particularly spectacular under the blue sky. The museum displays many samurai culture from the end of the shogunate. Then we went to Iimoriyama to visit the place where the Byakkotai committed suicide, and felt deeply the loyalty and heroism of the young samurai to their country. For lunch, enjoy the famous Aizu miso ramen, the rich soup is unforgettable.
Return to Koriyama in the evening and take a quick bath in the hot spring hotel to slow down your pace and enjoy a relaxing night.

🌾 Day 3: Embrace of Nature - Lake Inawashiro and Goshiki-numa
Today we arranged a natural healing trip and took a bus to [Lake Inawashiro]. The vast and tranquil lake and the reflection of Mount Bandai create a poetic scenery. Take a walk along the lakeside, take photos, and feel the vast natural beauty of Fukushima.
In the afternoon, we moved to the Five Colors Swamp Natural Exploration Trail and strolled through the woods, admiring the different water colors of each swamp, especially the breathtaking blue-green color of the Bishamon Swamp. We were lucky enough to encounter a pair of wild birds building a nest on the way, which added a lot of fun.
In the evening, enjoy a set meal of local cuisine from the Aizu region, including pickled radish, country miso soup and grilled rock fish, which is warm and satisfying.

🛤 Day 4: Hidden ancient streets and hot springs for relaxation
Take a walk in the small town of Miharu-machi and visit the thousand-year-old Miharu Takizakura (although it is not the flowering season, the surroundings are still quiet and beautiful), as well as the quaint streets and karaoke buildings. Everywhere is a good place to take photos.
In the afternoon, head to Bandai Atami Onsen, soak in the hot springs at the century-old hot spring hotel, and enjoy Japanese Kaiseki cuisine. What impressed me most about the kaiseki dinner was the tempura and steamed dishes made with local mountain vegetables and sake. The room faces the stream, and at night you can only hear the gurgling sound of water, which heals both your body and mind.

🛍 Day 5: The last leisure time・Culture and shopping
On the last day of the trip, we returned to the city of Koriyama. Visit the Koriyama City Museum of Art to admire the works of local and modern Japanese painters, and you will unexpectedly feel the deep connection between art and local culture.
Then go to AEON Mall Koriyama to buy souvenirs. Fukushima’s famous peach jam, local sake and handmade snacks are all must-buys. For lunch, we had matcha chiffon cake and latte at the cafe on the top floor of the department store, which was a sweet end to our trip.
