The Hamasen tourist train, a converted freight train, began operation at the end of November 2024. The Hamasen Railway Culture Park is being developed around the site of Takao Station on the Taiwan Transverse Railway, which opened in 1900 during the Japanese colonial period. Takao Station was renamed Kaohsiung Station in 1920 due to the renaming of the area, and after a new Kaohsiung Station was built in 1941, it was in operation as Kaohsiung Port Station, a freight-only station, until 2008. The station name change status can be seen at a glance. The Hamasen passenger cars are converted freight cars, and run at about 5 km/h for the 500 meters or so inside the park. It only operates on weekends and holidays, and once a month a steam locomotive is attached.
