There are 16,000 cherry trees planted, with a wide variety of varieties, including Japanese Kawazu cherry, Somei Yoshino, double cherry, Hatsubijin cherry, Guangzhou cherry, Fujian cherry, and Taiwanese cherry. It is one of the most popular cherry blossom spots in Shanghai. The cherry blossom festival is held every year from mid-March, and before COVID-19, it was so popular that an average of 150,000 people visited per day. (I went last year, but it was so crowded that it was difficult to move forward.) This time, I went on March 4th, a little early. The early-blooming Kawazu cherry blossoms were about 30% in bloom (apparently a little later this year), but the cherry blossom trees were starting to bloom in some places, and there were few people, so I was able to take my time looking around. The early-blooming cherry blossoms are around the "Sakura Variety Garden" near Gate 3, and I think they will be at their best in about a week. Gucun park is a beautiful place to visit in Autumn. It is easy to get to on Metro line 7 and the tickets are cheap and easy to get. The park itself is not the most beautiful in Shanghai but this is mostly because it is not an old park and has not yet matured with bigger and older trees. However, there is lots of interesting rides to enjoy. The wheel was a great way to see the park and the surrounding area but the personal highlight was the mini-train which circled some of the park. Even in Autumn there were some beautiful cherry blossom trees to see and it wasn’t busy. I would recommend a half day visit to this park.

It has a certain area known as Cherry blossom Alley, where the majority of the trees are. Also there is a Farris wheel, if you take that one, be prerared to be blown away by the amazing view (hence the ticket is a bit expensive, 40 yuan). 🌸 Actually to see those trees you don't need to rush to the Alley, cause trees can be found all over the park, but there will be less ppl with cameras so you can get all the view for yourself only. Not far from exit 3 there is a nice rosarium with the roses🌹 that are the size of my heard, a lake (you can rent a boat), and many Chery blossom trees! 🌸 My favourite part about those park is that picnics allowed, so you not only can step on the grass, but very welcomed to. Visiting Shanghai Gucun Park (上海顾村公园) during cherry blossom season was absolutely magical. One of my favorite places to experience spring is Century Park, the largest park in Shanghai. Walking along the tree-lined paths, I was greeted by the sight of sakura trees in full bloom, their delicate pink petals fluttering in the breeze. The lake shimmered under the soft sunlight, while couples rowed boats across the tranquil waters. Families gathered for picnics, enjoying the fleeting beauty of the season. Not far away, Gucun Park was a dreamlike scene of cherry blossom tunnels, where every step felt like walking through a pink-hued wonderland. The petals rained down like confetti, and the air was filled with the subtle fragrance of spring. I couldn’t resist stopping for a matcha latte at a nearby café, sipping slowly as I soaked in the peaceful atmosphere. The cherry blossoms in the park are bare, with only a few scattered cherry trees in bloom. This is mainly due to many people's lack of understanding of Gucun Park. The main cherry blossom variety in Gucun Park is the Somei Yoshino cherry, accounting for about 70% of the total number in the park. This variety is a mid-season cherry blossom, and its flowering period is from late March to early April. Sunshine cherry and winter cherry blossoms also bloom during the same period, and they are also very beautiful. Mid-season cherry blossoms are the true beauty of Gucun Park. When the Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms are in full bloom, they look like clouds and snow. It is recommended to stroll along Cherry Blossom Avenue and the Cherry Blossom Garden, where you can experience the ultimate romance of "cherry blossom rain." 2. There are many additional charges within the park. This problem mainly refers to two places, one is the Dinosaur Park, and the other is the newly launched Cherry Blossom Island this year. The Dinosaur Park is not cost-effective, and even if you have children, it's not recommended. It's a small, boring children's play area with outdated equipment. As for Cherry Blossom Island, it depends on your personal needs. This year, they have opened an evening session to watch the night cherry blossom light show (which is just so-so...). There are also some performances. I heard that there has been so much negative feedback recently that Cherry Blossom Island is now free during the day. So, this problem is solved. In addition, there is now a package ticket that includes a cherry blossom passport, which I highly recommend. It has a cherry blossom viewing strategy map, and you can collect stamps. Each stamp can be redeemed for a small gift, and if you collect 4 stamps, you will receive a limited-edition cherry blossom gift. By the way, if you go to Gucun Park to enjoy the cherry blossoms, you must bring a friend who can take photos. I was scolded by my wife in Gucun Park like a dog.
