I took a break in the lounge for AMEX card members at Entoku-in, a subtemple of Kodaiji Temple 😊 This is the guest hall at Entoku-in, a subtemple of Kodaiji Temple, where Hideyoshi Toyotomi's wife, Nene, spent her later years. In the summer, you can enjoy cold barley tea or chilled candy. My first chilled candy! Entoku-in Temple is said to be the final resting place of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's wife, Lady Nene. Sanmen Daikokuten is a Buddhist statue that combines the three gods Daikokuten, Bishamonten, and Benzaiten, and is also known as Toyotomi Hideyoshi's guardian Buddha. The festival day related to Sanmen Daikokuten is generally held on the day of Kinoene, just like the festival day of Daikokuten.  What is Kinoene Day: The day of Kinoene is a day that comes around once every 60 days according to the combination of the 10 Heavenly Stems and 12 Earthly Branches, and it marks the beginning of the zodiac. This day is considered to be an auspicious day for starting new things, and is also known as the festival day of Daikokuten. The Kinoene Festival is often held at temples and shrines that worship Daikokuten.  Sanmen Daikokuten Festival at Entoku-in Temple: Entoku-in Temple in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, has a Sanmen Daikokuten statue in its possession. At this temple, the 3rd of each month is the festival day of Sanmen Daikokuten, and special events and prayers are sometimes held. Also, on this day, three limited edition gold leaf Sanmen Daikokuten statues that were consecrated at Entoku-in Temple will be distributed.  Benefits of the festival: Sanmen Daikokuten is said to bring a wide range of benefits, including good fortune, wealth, music, wisdom, and victory in battle. You may not have heard of Entoku-ji, but you must have heard of Kiyomizu-dera! Entoku-ji is a nationally designated scenic spot located near Kiyomizu-dera. After visiting Kiyomizu-dera in the morning, I passed by Entoku-ji and decided to go in because it was very peaceful. Entoku-ji is actually a small temple of Kodaiji, where Toyotomi Hideyoshi's wife, Kita no Mandokoro Nene, spent her later years. You can see traces of Nene's life, such as the chozubachi (water basin), built in 1606. Kodaiji is also nearby and can be visited together. The dry landscape garden in the northern courtyard showcases Momoyama period culture, with a strolling pond garden structure. The famous tea master, Kobori Enshu, also participated in the garden's construction. This place was also visited by many daimyo and monks of that time. Sitting in these gardens, I felt very peaceful. While sitting for a long time, three Japanese ladies arrived. Before I left, I took pictures of the garden. The scene of them sitting and chatting felt like a Japanese drama! I also copied a few lines of sutras. It was truly a peaceful day! Entoku-ji and Kodaiji combined ticket: 900 yen (includes a small art museum ticket, also nearby)

This Buddhist is popular for its handpainted sliding doors. I personally think the paintings were intricate, depicting the usual Japanese cultural symbols such as Bamboo drawings, and the likes. The place is also serene, no too much crowd. For an admission fee of ¥500, you can already enjoy the exhibit of the sliding doors, as well as the garden in the area. The Japanese lanterns also look gorgeous, by the way. #wintergetaway

After sitting in Gaotai Temple, by the way, go to the Yuandeyuan in the next tower. Here, like Gaotai Temple, Ningning, the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, was built to honor the show. I just bought the 900 yen pass from the Gaodai Temple Yuandeyuan. Although I have never heard of Yuandeyuan before, I have passed the mentality of how to pay for the tickets. There is no cherry blossom here, there is no cherry blossom here, there is no cherry blossom here! Yuandeyuan is a place for self-cultivation to make people copy the scriptures. If there are few people in Gaotai Temple, there is basically no one here. Inside the cool straw mat floor, walking along the small steps to imagine the quiet life of Ningning's later years is very interesting. Although there is no cherry blossom in the Yuandeyuan, the courtyard view is not as high as the Gaotai Temple, but sitting quietly on the terrace of the inner courtyard to see the scenery of the dry mountains and waters, I feel that my Buddhist life is higher than a realm.
