Historic buildings
The Chowmahalla Palace is one of the most representative historical buildings in Hyderabad, India. It was once the administrative center and ceremonial place of the royal family of the Hyderabad princely state. The overall design is inspired by the Shah Palace in Tehran, Iran, and combines Persian, Indian Mughal and European neoclassical styles to form a unique architectural aesthetic. The palace complex is divided into two large courtyards in the north and south. The core buildings include the Durbar Hall, which symbolizes power. The hall is paved with Italian marble floors and hung with Belgian crystal chandeliers. The marble throne of the Nizam family is placed in the center and is still used for important ceremonies. The four palaces in the south area reflect the influence of neoclassicism with symmetrical layouts and European columns. The gardens, fountains and sculptures in the courtyard complement each other. Among them, the century-old mechanical clock tower still runs accurately. The Chowmahalla Palace was donated by the Nizam family and restored as a museum. It now houses a variety of precious cultural relics and regularly holds cultural exhibitions and festivals. Its architecture and collections vividly interpret the multicultural heritage of Hyderabad as the "City of Pearls".
