Byodoin Temple is located at No. 116 Renka, Uji City, a suburb of Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. It is a temple garden with a pond and boat tour style in the Heian period. The site is a Feng Shui treasure land, facing the Uji River in front and Mount Asahi in the distance.
Byodoin Temple, an early Japanese wooden structure, was built along the Uji River in Kyoto. It is said to be the ultimate concrete realization of the Western Paradise by the ancient Japanese. The temple was built in 1052. Its size is half of the area of Uji today. It was built to draw water from the Uji River. According to the Buddhist Dharma Ending Age, the Amida Hall was built to the west of the pond, and the worship hall symbolizing the present world was built to the east of the pond. This is a representative building of the "Pure Land Garden". Its specifications have become a reference indicator for later Japanese gardens.
As a world cultural heritage, Pingdengyuan is a must-see for those who like Japanese garden architecture.
