This time when we came to Krakow, Poland, we were lucky to encounter a sunny day, and the whole city seemed to come alive! Walking in the old town of Krakow, the lively market square is full of vitality. Everyone takes advantage of the good weather to go out and enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of the weekend. The whole square looks particularly joyful. We started our exploration from the Market Square (Rynek Główny). As soon as we stepped into the square, we were surrounded by a lively atmosphere! There are many vendors selling flowers in the center of the square. The colorful bouquets add color to the whole space. There are also street performers performing acrobatics, which attracts many people to watch. Krakow's Old Town is not just a quiet historical site, but also a humane open-air stage on weekends. This time we came to Krakow, we stayed at Shalom Kazimierz. The location of this accommodation is very convenient, but the only small regret is that the room does not come with breakfast. However, the staff at the counter were very considerate and recommended us to have breakfast at the nearby Kolanko No 6 Café. Their breakfast buffet is not only rich but also very affordable. You can eat as much as you want for only 7 euros, which is really a good deal! The next morning we walked into Kolanko No 6 bright and early. The layout of the store is very warm, like the living room of an old friend's home, making people feel the relaxing atmosphere as soon as they step in. The breakfast options here are very diverse, ranging from a variety of fresh salads, Polish cheese, smoked ham, freshly baked bread, homemade jams, everything you need! If you also come to the Jewish Quarter (Kazimierz) in Krakow, be sure to go to Kolanko No 6 to experience this hearty and delicious breakfast buffet. Just as we walked out of Cafe Camelot and prepared to continue exploring the old town of Krakow, we suddenly found a group of people gathered at the other end of the alley. Upon closer inspection, we found that it was a movie set being filmed! We were so lucky to run into some Polish people filming a movie! The atmosphere on the scene was like traveling through time and space. Several actors dressed in traditional Polish costumes stood at the corner of the cafe, with an old carriage and ancient buildings in the background. As the music started, they began to dance, performing passionate traditional Polish dances. At that moment, the whole alley was filled with rhythm, accompanied by the melodies of accordion and violin, as if taking us into the old times of Poland. The dancers spun, held hands, and moved briskly and neatly, their movements full of energy and grace. The crew members watching nearby also swayed gently to the beat from time to time, and the whole scene was filled with joy and happiness. We were deeply attracted by this beautiful scene and couldn't help but stop and quietly feel the shock and energy brought by this traditional dance. I am so lucky to come across such a scene! Since it's more rural than Warsaw, the cost of living is lower, so buying souvenirs, eating out, and paying for tickets are all slightly cheaper than in Japan. You can fully enjoy the European atmosphere without worrying too much about money. Hotels are also affordable, costing around 2,000 to 3,000 yen per night for one person. It's a place I highly recommend for university students!

St. Mary's Basilica is one of the most important churches in Kraków, second only to the Wawel Cathedral within the royal castle. Built on the foundations of a late 13th-century Romanesque church, it was completed around 1320 as a Gothic cathedral. Over the years, both the interior and exterior have undergone numerous renovations and modifications to become the structure we see today, including its most iconic feature: the unequal twin towers. 📜Legend of the Towers: The north tower stands at 82 meters, significantly taller than the 69-meter south tower. The purpose was to allow the north tower, serving as the city's watchtower, to observe enemy attacks without obstruction. However, there is an interesting legend associated with this. It is said that during the construction of the twin towers, the best craftsmen brothers in Poland were hired, with the younger brother responsible for the north tower and the elder for the south tower. Initially, their progress was similar, but as time passed, the younger brother noticed that the south tower was higher and would be completed faster. Driven by jealousy, he killed his brother with a knife and hastily topped the south tower with a dome, making the north tower ultimately taller. Although the younger brother won in appearance, he was overwhelmed by guilt and confessed his crime on the north tower before jumping to his death. 📜Legend of the Bugle Call: As the highest point in the city, the north tower's bugle call was used daily to signal the opening and closing of the city gates and to alert of enemy invasions. Today, even without such needs, a bugler still plays the bugle at every hour. Interestingly, the bugle call abruptly stops, said to commemorate the bugler who was shot in the throat by a Tatar arrow during an invasion, causing the call to suddenly cease. St. Mary's Basilica is a must-visit in Kraków, with its towering spires and resonant bugle calls drawing attention within the ancient city. The crown atop the north tower symbolizes the Polish royal capital, evoking a sense of sorrow for the nation's tumultuous history. Poland has been partitioned multiple times, experiencing three periods of dissolution and three periods of revival. Many cultural artifacts bearing the collective memory of the nation have been lost, and even the national treasure, St. Mary's Altar, was only recovered after World War II, adding to the sense of melancholy. Among the many churches I have visited, St. Mary's Basilica stands out as particularly impressive. Although not as grand as some of the world's renowned cathedrals, its unique and splendid interior is breathtaking. The dazzling starry ceiling highlights the suspended figure of Jesus in the center of the church, a design I have never seen before. Additionally, the medieval stained glass windows of the main altar, the world's largest Gothic altarpiece, and the unique wall colors create an unforgettable scene. 🚗 Transportation: St. Mary's Basilica is located in the heart of Kraków's Old Town. The Old Town is primarily pedestrianized, and it takes about 10-15 minutes to walk from Kraków's main train station to the basilica.

Among them, these few churches are particularly unique, each worth savoring in detail. The highlight is the red brick Gothic exterior altar and the exquisitely carved wooden altar inside, which is particularly quiet It's a 'hidden gem'! 🏘Address: Św. It was a trip to Krakow Old Town. We visited Wawel Castle, a historic castle residency located in central Krakow. It was the political and cultural heart of Poland during the 16th century. We went there for a quick walk and explored around. 📍Wawel 5, 31-001 Kraków We also visited Wawel Cathedral This cathedral is the coronation site of Polish monarchs and the burial place of many national heroes. 📍Wawel 3, 31-001 Kraków We then had our lunch at Pod Wawelem. I would recommend you to try Polish Platter (selection of traditional Polish dishes). The price was considered cheap and the quality of food is great. 📍Świętej Gertrudy 26-29, 31-048 Kraków We also visited the Main Market Square (Rynek Główny). The largest medieval town square in Europe, dating back to the 13th century. 📍Rynek Główny, 30-062 Kraków We also visited St. Mary's Basilica, a Gothic church famous for its wooden altarpiece carved by Veit Stoss. It is the largest of the Nazi concentration and extermination camps, a solemn reminder of the Holocaust. The Market Square is the main square of the Old Town in Krakow. In the middle of the square there is a Cloth Hall- place for shopping. Long time ago it was a center of city’s trade. But now it’s a historical sightseeing, where you can buy some souvenirs from Poland. It looks like a long gallery with small shops inside. The Polish Aviation Museum (Muzeum Lotnictwa Polskiego w Krakowie) is a large museum of historic aircraft and aircraft engines in Kraków, Poland. It is located at the site of the no-longer functional Kraków-Rakowice-Czyżyny Airport. This airfield, established by Austria-Hungary in 1912, is one of the oldest in the world. The museum opened in 1964, after the airfield closed in 1963. Has been scored as eighth world's best aviation museum by CNN. For the first half century of its existence the museum used four hangars of the former airfield to display its exhibits. These buildings were not originally designed for this purpose and suffered from various inadequacies, notably insufficient heating in winter. The situation improved when a new main building for the museum opened on 18 September 2010. The collection consists of over 200 aircraft. Several of the aircraft displayed are unique on the world scale, including sailplanes and some 100 aircraft engines. Some of the exhibits are only in their initial stages. Planty is one of the largest city parks in Kraków, Poland. It encircles the Stare Miasto (Old Town), where the Medieval city walls used to stand until the early 19th century. The historic Old Town is not to be confused with the Administrative District No. 1 Stare Miasto extending further east. The park has an area of 21 ha (52 acres) and a length of 4 km (2.5 mi).It consists of a chain of thirty smaller gardens designed in varied styles and adorned with numerous monuments and fountains. There are over twenty statues of noble historical figures in the park including monuments to Nicolaus Copernicus, Jan Matejko, Queen Jadwiga and King Wladyslaw II Jagiello. There are also several plaques in the park commemorating, among others, Jan Dlugosz and Stanislaw Wyspianski. The park forms a scenic walkway popular with Cracovians. In summer, sprinkled with ponds and refreshment stalls, it is a cool and shady retreat from the nearby bustling streets. Most historic sites of the old Kraków are located inside the Planty-park-belt along the Royal Road (Polish: Droga Królewska) crossing the park from the medieval suburb of Kleparz – through Florian Gate – at the northern flank of the old city walls. The Main Square (Rynek Główny) of the Old Town of Kraków, Lesser Poland, is the principal urban space located at the center of the city. It dates back to the 13th century, and at 3.79 ha (9.4 acres) is the largest medieval town square in Europe. The Project for Public Spaces (PPS) lists the square as the best public space in Europe due to its lively street life, and it was a major factor in the inclusion of Kraków as one of the top off-the-beaten-path destinations in the world in 2016. The Main Square is a square space surrounded by historic townhouses (kamienice) and churches. The center of the square is dominated by the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), rebuilt in 1555 in the Renaissance style, topped by a beautiful attic or Polish parapet decorated with carved masks. On one side of the cloth hall is the Town Hall Tower (Wieża ratuszowa), on the other the 11th century Church of St. Adalbert and 1898 Adam Mickiewicz Monument. Rising above the square are the Gothic towers of St. Mary's Basilica (Kościół Mariacki). Today I visited the Polish aviation museum in Krakow! it is one of the city's most underrated locations and highly worth a visit! Entry is free on Tuesday so today was a perfect time to visit. Inside you will find lots of cold war era aircraft, as well as British and Swedish jets that used to be operated by Poland. New renovations have recently been made that now house permanent exhibitions from the First World war. #krakow #poland
