We visited Baota Mountain (Pagoda Hill) in Yan’an on a clear, peaceful afternoon, and its historic pagoda rising above the city instantly drew our attention. The climb up the hill dotted with pine and cypress felt gentle yet grounding, and eventually led us to the nine‑story, 44-meter brick pagoda that crowns the summit. From there, we had sweeping views over Yan’an’s rooftops and surrounding landscape, which unfolded quietly beneath us. The pagoda felt both iconic and approachable, offering a moment to pause and look back across both town and time .
What stood out most was the calm energy of the site and the thoughtful way it blends natural beauty with cultural meaning. There were no commercial distractions just open sky, historic architecture, and gentle breezes among the trees. Walking around the pagoda base and bell pavilion, we sensed the mountain’s symbolic weight without feeling staged. If you’re looking for a place where simplicity and history meet naturally, we would highly recommend Baota Mountain. It leaves you feeling quietly connected to both place and the enduring spirit of Yan’an.
