Xiamen is truly beautiful. This is my third time visiting Xiamen. I traveled from Taiwan on my own, without doing much research, just going wherever I wanted. That's the beauty of solo travel! I visited Xiamen University, Nanputuo Temple, Wuyuan Bay Park, and Shapowei, and also strolled around the ancient city of Zhangzhou. Honestly, everything was fantastic. I traveled entirely by bus in Xiamen and Zhangzhou, and then by high-speed rail between the two cities. The transportation costs were shockingly cheap, haha, maybe a bit exaggerated, but definitely much cheaper than in Taiwan. As for food, the options in Xiamen and Zhangzhou are quite similar. I recommend taking a walk along Zhongshan Pedestrian Street in Xiamen at night; it's very pleasant. Then, head to the Eighth Market for some authentic local cuisine – it's amazing! Before you go to Taiwan, download Alipay and WeChat Pay; you can link them to your Taiwanese phone number and bank account. For navigation, I recommend using Baidu or Gaode Maps. I personally use Baidu Maps, which I'm used to and have been using ever since. I highly recommend anyone who hasn't been to Xiamen to come and see for themselves!
