Weihai, Shandong

Weihai, abbreviated as "Wei" and formerly known as "Weihaiwei," is located at the easternmost tip of Shandong Province, on the eastern end of the Shandong Peninsula. It is bordered by the Yellow Sea to the north, east, and south, faces the Liaodong Peninsula to the north, looks out to the Korean Peninsula across the sea to the east, and borders Yantai City to the west. Weihai boasts a history of over 7,000 years and is an important historical and cultural city. As early as the Neolithic Age, the "Hekou people" thrived on the eastern shore of Jinghai Bay. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Weihai served as a vital coastal defense stronghold, guarding against Japanese pirates and becoming a significant military site. In the late Qing Dynasty, Liugong Island became the base of the Beiyang Fleet, witnessing the history of the First Sino-Japanese War. Known for its picturesque landscape where mountains meet the sea, Weihai is rich in tourism resources. Liugong Island, a national 5A-level scenic spot, houses historical relics such as the Museum of the First Sino-Japanese War and the Beiyang Navy School. In addition, Kunyu Mountain, Naxianhai, Swan Lake, and Happiness Gate are also popular tourist attractions. Weihai maintains a clean urban environment and has been honored as a "National Hygienic City" and a "Garden City."
