#TokyoAttractions Odaiba, whose name "Odaiba" means fort, originated from the coastal defense facilities built in the 19th century to deal with the American "black ships". Today, it has become a popular place for Tokyo residents and international tourists. Odaiba combines shopping, dining, futuristic attractions and museums, all within walking distance. It can be easily reached by taking the Yurikamome or the Rinkai Line from central Tokyo. The iconic "Statue of Liberty" in Odaiba, Tokyo, is an exquisite replica of the famous statue in New York. It symbolizes the deep friendship between Japan and France. Erected in 1998 to commemorate Franco-Japanese relations, the statue's popularity was unexpected and it has been preserved. This is despite being only one-seventh the size of the New York original.
