Title: Tbilisi – The Bohemian Soul of the Caucasus

#cityplaybook #familytrip #localguides #postandearn Tbilisi isn’t just a city—it’s a living storybook of cultures, empires, and artistic rebellion nestled in the heart of the Caucasus Mountains. From the moment I arrived, I was drawn in by its cobblestone alleys, leafy courtyards, and eclectic blend of old-world charm and contemporary edge. This is a city that has burned and risen again, more vibrant each time. Walking through the Old Town (Dzveli Tbilisi) is like entering a mosaic of civilizations. Persian, Russian, Ottoman, and European influences blend seamlessly into the architecture. Balconies draped in vines, pastel-colored houses, and the smell of fresh khachapuri from nearby bakeries made every step a delight. I spent hours exploring hidden alleyways, discovering local art studios, cozy wine bars, and ancient churches like Metekhi and Anchiskhati Basilica. High above the city stands the Narikala Fortress, where a short cable car ride gave me stunning panoramic views of the Kura River winding through the city. As I stood under the watchful gaze of the Mother of Georgia statue, I understood the fierce pride Georgians have for their land—hospitable, yet unshakable. One of my favorite spots was the Abanotubani district, famous for its sulfur baths. Soaking in the warm, mineral-rich water in a tiled dome bathhouse was not only relaxing but also a unique glimpse into Tbilisi’s ancient wellness culture. As the sun set, I joined locals in Fabrika, a once-abandoned Soviet sewing factory turned into a multi-purpose creative hub filled with cafes, street art, live music, and good energy. It’s a testament to how Tbilisi embraces the future while celebrating its past. And the food—don’t get me started. From khinkali dumplings to churchkhela sweets and local qvevri wine, every bite and sip was a celebration of Georgian generosity. Tbilisi isn’t polished, and that’s its magic. It’s raw, poetic, welcoming—and it will surprise you at every corner. Best Time to Visit May to June or September to October – perfect for mild weather, wine harvests, and scenic views. Helpful Tips Public transport is cheap, but the city is best explored on foot. Tbilisi is very safe and welcoming to tourists. Learn a few Georgian phrases—they appreciate it!
