A Surprising Discovery: The CDL EcoTrain and Its Interactive Sustainability Exhibits

#springitinerary While wandering around the vibrant neighborhood of Farrer Park, we happened upon a quirky little spot that instantly caught our attention — the CDL EcoTrain. It’s one of those hidden gems that you don’t expect to find right outside a bustling mall, yet it’s the kind of discovery that feels like a pleasant surprise. Located just outside City Square Mall, this eco-friendly project is a decommissioned SMRT train that’s been given a whole new life as an educational space focused on sustainability. The first thing that strikes you when you approach the train is its unique design — sleek and modern, but with a touch of character. It’s hard to miss, with its solar panels on the roof and striking exterior, but it’s also surprisingly inviting. As we stepped inside, we were instantly captivated by the space. The train has been completely transformed into a cool, interactive exhibit on sustainability. The interior is bright and airy, with plenty of natural light pouring through the windows, creating an almost zen-like atmosphere. One of the things we loved was how immersive the experience felt. It wasn’t just about learning facts — it was about engaging with the subject. There were different stations inside, each focusing on various aspects of environmental conservation, from protecting biodiversity to promoting renewable energy. It felt less like a typical museum exhibit and more like a fun, hands-on experience. We especially enjoyed the interactive games they had set up. One of them involved scanning QR codes to unlock clues and learn about different aspects of rainforest ecosystems, which was both educational and entertaining. Of course, no visit would be complete without mentioning the “quote of the day” wafer biscuit that comes with every gelato order at nearby Sweet Cheeks Gelato, which we had just sampled before exploring the EcoTrain. It’s little things like that that really add a personal touch and make the whole experience feel more engaging. The entire vibe of the EcoTrain was a breath of fresh air. It’s not just about showcasing the importance of sustainability, but also making it accessible and enjoyable for everyone — whether you’re a local or a tourist. The combination of educational content, eco-friendly design, and the overall warm ambiance made it feel like the perfect spot to take a break, relax, and learn something new. Whether you're an eco-conscious traveler or simply curious about sustainability, the CDL EcoTrain is definitely worth a visit. It’s a unique and thought-provoking experience tucked away in one of Singapore’s most bustling areas — and it’s a reminder that even in the heart of the city, there’s always room for green spaces and environmental education. If you're ever around City Square Mall, make sure to stop by and explore this cool, eco-friendly hub!
