🔷Shirakawa-go, located at the foot of Mount Haku in the northwestern part of Gifu Prefecture, is a tranquil mountain village surrounded by mountains, crisscrossed by rice paddies, and traversed by rivers. The gassho-style houses there were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1995. Shirakawa-go is not only famous for its gassho-style architecture but also for the dreamy winter scenes of snow-covered gassho houses lit up at night, often seen online. 🔷Takayama, commonly known as "Little Kyoto," exudes an old-world charm. The city's concentrated sightseeing area stretches from Takayama Jinya to the Sanmachi Suji district, and further to Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine and the Festival Floats Exhibition Hall. The most famous street among these is Sanmachi Suji, where the buildings have almost entirely preserved the Edo period style. The upper Sanmachi Suji stands as quietly as it did when it was first built hundreds of years ago during the Edo period, creating a momentary illusion of time travel. If you can wake up early, you can also visit the Miyagawa Morning Market. Just like Kyoto has the Kamo River, Takayama also has a small river running through it, and the iconic red bridge has become a cover image for many travel brochures. 🔷Hida-Furukawa, located in the Hida region of Gifu Prefecture, lies north of Takayama. As towns built during the same period and influenced by the same lord, Furukawa and Takayama share many similarities in terms of street layout, temples, and residential arrangements.
