Qibao Old Street's greatest appeal lies in its historic atmosphere, known as "the millennium-old town and the origin of Shanghai," and its water town scenery, secluded from the hustle and bustle of modern times. Originating in the Song Dynasty, this ancient town is popular as the "closest water town" to Shanghai, offering easy access. 🗓️ Guided Tour 🚇 The entrance to the old street is just a few minutes' walk from Qibao Station on Subway Line 9. Buses and taxis are also available. ⇨ 📷 Head to the Old Street's Main Street Pass through the large archway inscribed with "Qibao Old Street" and you'll enter a different world. First, take a commemorative photo at the bell tower "Tianlai Zhong" to the north. (You can enter, but just enjoying the exterior is fine.) ⇨ 🛍️ Pass to the right of the bell tower and enjoy the Chinese streetscape. The back alleys of the old street are filled with small shops selling handicrafts, sweets, and miscellaneous goods. (You can just enjoy the atmosphere and then head back.) The following specialties are a must-try. · Qibao Fangao: Chewy steamed cake made from rice flour. Filled with various fillings, including red bean and sesame. · Bai Che Yangrou: A Qibao specialty made with lamb. It has a refreshing taste. · Tang Hulu: A Beijing specialty made with hawthorn and strawberries coated in sugar, this treat is also commonly found here. My Recommended Food ✨ Xiaolongbao: Xi Yuan Wuxi Xiaolongguan There's only a few seats on the first floor, but there's a second floor. When it's hot, you can eat in the air-conditioned area, making it a great place to take a break. Reasonably priced, chewy xiaolongbao Tangyuan: Qibao Old Street Tangyuan Branch A must-try are the black sesame dumplings, called tan yen. They come in black sesame, red bean, peanut, and meat flavors, and you can order them individually. The smooth texture of the mochi is exquisite, but be careful, each one is large! Salted Quail Eggs Quail eggs steamed in a salt pan. Take these as a souvenir for when you're feeling a bit hungry! ⇨ 🍵Tea Time While Enjoying the Waterside View Once you've had your fill of food, we recommend sipping tea at a teahouse along the Puhuitang River while admiring the willow trees. ⇨ 🏯 Return to the souvenir area or head to Qibao Temple Go see the tower at Qibao Temple, modeled after the pavilion-style architecture of the Tang Dynasty in China. It's free inside, so it's also a great way to see a Chinese temple. . . Qibao Old Street is a tourist spot where you can enjoy a Chinese atmosphere, sampling local delicacies, and more. It's not particularly large for a Chinese city, so you can explore it in about three hours at a leisurely pace.
