Shanghai/A walk through time and space: My trip to the Bund buildings in Shanghai

Walking on the Bund by the Huangpu River, I felt as if I was in Shanghai a hundred years ago. This is not only one of the most representative landmarks in Shanghai, but also a feast of architectural styles: from Gothic, Baroque to neoclassicism, 22 historical buildings of different styles stand side by side, like a chronicle of the city's architecture. 🚇 Transportation: It is actually very convenient to come here I got off at Nanjing East Road Station on Metro Line 2 or Line 10, and walked about 10 minutes after exiting the station to reach the Bund. Whether it is day or night, there are always crowds of people along the Huangpu River, but even if it is crowded, it can't stop its charm. 🏛 Must-visit building selection: from the prosperity of the concession to the modern phantom 1. Shanghai Pudong Development Bank Building (formerly HSBC Building) This building, completed in 1923, was the most luxurious bank building in the Far East at that time. Looking up, the whole row of huge Greek columns is magnificent. When you enter the door, you can see the mosaics on the vaulted ceiling, which are so gorgeous that they take my breath away. 2. Shanghai Customs Building The towering clock tower is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the Bund. The bell rings every fifteen minutes, as if reminding that the rhythm of this city never stops. 3. Peace Hotel (formerly Sassoon Building) This is my favorite building. The exterior is a typical Art Deco style, while the old-fashioned decoration, classic jazz performances and red brick bars inside make people step into the night of old Shanghai. 🌉 Extended attractions recommended: Not just buildings The Bund Observation Deck: When night falls, I always like to stand on the observation deck and look at the Lujiazui skyscrapers on the opposite bank - Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, Jinmao Tower. A century of changes can be seen on both sides of the river. Huangpu River Cruise: If you want to appreciate the Bund buildings from a different angle, I recommend taking a Huangpu River night cruise. The buildings under the neon lights add to the romance. 🍜 Food Recommendation: When you are tired of shopping, try some Shanghai flavor Nanxiang Steamed Bun Shop (Nanjing East Road): The signature steamed buns are juicy and thin. When I took a bite, the hot soup almost made me scream. Lao Jishi (near the Bund): This classic local cuisine restaurant is hidden in an alley, but the braised pork and pickled pork with preserved vegetables are unforgettable. The sweet and salty taste is moderate, and the gelatin melts in the mouth. Hongruixing Noodle House: A beef noodle soup restaurant recommended by locals. The soup is fragrant and not greasy. It is the warmest comfort in the cold winter. 📌 Tips • Most of the buildings on the Bund are for office use. If you want to visit inside, please check in advance whether they are open. Peace Hotel is one of the few buildings that can be visited freely inside. • The crowds are heaviest in the evening. If you want to take aerial photos, it is recommended to come early in the morning or late at night. Walking through the Bund is like flipping through a real history book. This is the memory of old Shanghai and the facade of new Shanghai. Every time I visit, I can find another face of the city in different buildings. Next time I come, I may dress more retro to make myself more integrated into this corridor of time.
