Watching elderly locals casually play cards near temple courtyards added to the authentic vibe. Despite being a tourist hotspot, Qibao retains its lived-in charm, especially when you veer off the main food street and explore the quieter back lanes. For just a few yuan, I savored tanghulu (candied hawthorn), browsed trinket shops selling handmade seals, and enjoyed a scenic tea break overlooking the canal. Qibao Old Street reminded me that meaningful travel doesn’t need to be expensive. It’s a place where you can sip traditional herbal drinks, snack endlessly, and soak up centuries of local life—all while staying well within budget. A perfect half-day escape for culture lovers and budget travelers alike.
