The Spirit of the Snake: Shanghai Museum's Spring Festival Exhibition

On the eve of the Spring Festival, I visited the "Spirit of the Snake: Shanghai Museum's Spring Festival Exhibition" at the Shanghai Museum (People's Square). The exhibition's name, "Spirit of the Snake," is inspired by "The Wizard of Oz," symbolizing the snake's agility and mystery. The exhibition features 8 artifacts from the Shanghai Museum's collection, and 5 artifacts borrowed from the Yunnan Lijiashan Bronze Museum and the Hubei Provincial Museum, totaling 13 (sets) of exquisite artifacts. The exhibition aims to showcase the enduring and evolving snake spirit legends in Chinese civilization through these artifacts, and to experience the spiritual resonance of snake culture that transcends mountains and seas, connecting various ethnic groups. The artifacts in the exhibition cover a range of items, from oracle bone inscriptions and records in the "Classic of Mountains and Seas" to images on bronze ware and stone carvings, highlighting the snake's significant role in early Chinese civilization. Shanghai Museum
