Seoul Chinggyeong Monument

The Chinggyeong Monument was erected in 1902 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Emperor Gojong's accession to the throne and his 51st birthday during the Korean Empire era. The monument is currently located at the intersection of Sejong-daero in Jongno-gu, Seoul (in front of the Gwanghwamun Kyobo Building). Its official name is "The Chinggyeong Monument for the 40th Year of Emperor Gojong's Reign." This monument symbolizes the Korean Empire's determination for autonomous independence. It served as a representation of Emperor Gojong's declaration of the nation's name as "Daehan" and his proclamation as emperor, marking the establishment of an emperor-centered national system to the international community.
