Stand in the center of Korean history - walk to Gwanghwamun

Having been to Seoul so many times, this time I finally had time to slowly walk around Gwanghwamun Square, and then I was really attracted by the super giant bronze statue – it turned out to be the most famous king of the Joseon Dynasty, King Sejong the Great. The statue is very large and stands very impressively in the middle. I heard that the whole statue is 6.2 meters high and weighs more than 20 metric tons. It was built in 2009 and designed by a professor at Hongik University. He had a book spread out in his hand, his expression was gentle yet dignified, and he looked very wise and kingly. There are several ancient instruments such as sundial and rain gauge in front of the statue, which has a sense of science and history. It turns out that King Sejong the Great was not only an emperor, but also a historical figure that Koreans super-respected – not only did he drive many cultural developments, but he also created Korean (Honwon), which made literacy no longer something that only nobles could qualify for. No wonder it’s placed in the middle of the whole square, it’s really symbolic. And I was standing in front of him, looking at him, at the Koreans shuttled around, with an inexplicable respect. Although it is just a bronze statue, you feel that it is not just decorative here, but it represents a piece of history, a spirit. Behind the bronze statue is the Sejong Story Museum.
