Sapporo Cherry Blossom Viewing - Shinkawa Cherry Blossom Avenue

A hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing that is rarely pursued by tourists, the Shinkawa Cherry Blossom Avenue stretches for 10.5 kilometers and is said to be the longest cherry blossom grove in Hokkaido. Planted approximately 20 years ago, it spans across Sapporo's Kita Ward and Teine Ward, featuring over a thousand Ezo mountain cherry and Somei Yoshino cherry trees. When in full bloom along the riverbanks, the sight is truly spectacular. Located in Sapporo's Kita Ward, Shinkawa Cherry Blossom Avenue is quite accessible from Sapporo Station. Take the JR Gakuen-Toshi Line to Hassamu Station, which is just two stops and about a 6-minute ride. From there, it's a 12-minute walk to the destination, making it a relatively quick trip. At night, the riverside is illuminated with lights and adorned with carp streamers, creating a picturesque and rustic countryside ambiance.
