Journey from Bohol to the Magical Island of Siquijor 🌊

After spending a few enchanting days on Bohol Island, marveling at the Chocolate Hills and meeting the wide-eyed tarsiers, I decided to extend my adventure by heading to one of the Philippines’ most mystical destinations: Siquijor Island. ⸻ 🚤 Getting There I boarded a ferry from Tagbilaran Port in Bohol to Larena Port in Siquijor. The journey took about 1.5 hours across calm turquoise waters. With the sea breeze on my face and anticipation in my heart, I knew I was in for something special. ⸻ 🗺️ Exploring Siquijor – The Island of Fire Nicknamed “The Island of Fire” due to its mystical folklore and glowing sunsets, Siquijor is a small island packed with charm, mystery, and natural beauty. ⸻ 🌊 Cambugahay Falls One of the first stops was the famous Cambugahay Falls in Lazi. The multi-tiered waterfalls with crystal-clear blue water were a sight to behold. I couldn’t resist the thrill of the rope swing—it’s like flying into paradise. The water was refreshingly cool and surrounded by lush jungle. ⸻ 🏖️ Paliton Beach Next up was Paliton Beach, often called the “Little Boracay of Siquijor.” The white sand, swaying coconut trees, and calm shallow waters were perfect for unwinding. I waited until sunset, and I wasn’t disappointed—the sky turned fiery orange and pink, a magical end to the day. ⸻ 🏛️ Lazi Church & Convent Siquijor is also rich in history. I visited the San Isidro Labrador Church and Convent, a Spanish-era structure built in the 1800s. The wooden floors, coral stone walls, and tranquil atmosphere made it feel like stepping back in time. ⸻ 🌳 Enchanted Balete Tree & Fish Spa In the town of Lazi, I stopped by the 400-year-old Balete Tree, believed by locals to have magical properties. Beneath it flows a spring filled with fish that nibble gently on your feet—a free natural foot spa with a mystical touch. ⸻ 🍽️ Food & Locals Siquijor may be small, but it’s full of flavor. I tried grilled seafood by the beach, and fresh mango shakes became a daily treat. The locals were warm, genuine, and eager to share stories—some of healing traditions, others of enchantment. ⸻ 🌅 Final Thoughts Siquijor is more than just beaches and waterfalls—it’s a place that stirs the soul. The combination of nature, folklore, and tranquility makes it feel like a secret gem in the Philippines. If you’re in Bohol and craving something more offbeat and magical, Siquijor is a must.
