Porto, Portugal Travel Guide – From Lello Bookstore to Wine Tour

#Europe Guide Porto, a port city in northern Portugal, is small but leaves a strong impression. It is quieter than Lisbon, but it has a deep beauty, so you can't help but be impressed as you walk. This trip was a 3-night, 4-day trip, and I went on a route that allowed me to experience both famous attractions and the lives of locals. The first day started with appreciating the azulejo tiles at São Bento Station. This place, where historical scenes are expressed in tiles, is more like a museum than a station. The Lello Bookstore, located right next door, is one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, and is a must-visit even if you're not a Harry Potter fan. You must reserve your admission ticket in advance. On the second day, I climbed the Clérigos Tower to look down on the entire city and enjoyed a leisurely walk in the Ribeira district along the Douro River. I crossed the river and headed to Vila Nova de Gaia to take a tour of the 'Taylor' winery, which was informative and impressive because I was able to taste high-quality port wine and see the winemaking process firsthand. On the third day, we visited places where you can really feel the emotion of Porto, such as Flores Street, Bolhao Market, and Majestic Cafe. The leisure of pastel de nata and a cup of coffee here and there added vitality to the trip. We stayed near the Ribeira, and the location was good, so we could walk around safely even at night. Porto is a small city, but it is full of things to enjoy. The trip is mainly done on foot, and the cost of living is low compared to Europe, so it is less burdensome for travelers.
