Pingyang County, under the jurisdiction of Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is located in the southeast coast of Zhejiang Province, facing the East China Sea to the east, bordering Cangnan County to the south, adjacent to Wencheng County and Taishun County to the west, and connected to Rui'an City to the north, with a total area of 1051 square kilometers. Pingyang was established as a county during the fourth year of Taikang in the Western Jin Dynasty (283 AD), and has a history of more than 1700 years. During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period (914 AD), the county name was set as Pingyang, which remains to this day. Pingyang has always been prosperous in literary culture, producing many cultural figures, including Huang Gongwang, the author of 'Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains', Lin Jingxi, a patriotic poet of the Southern Song Dynasty, Song Shu, a thinker of the Qing Dynasty, Su Buqing, a contemporary mathematical authority, and Xie Xiaxun, a centenarian chess master. Pingyang is an important birthplace and inheritance site of Southern Opera, and is known as the 'Hometown of Martial Arts in China', 'Hometown of Chinese Chess', and 'Hometown of Traditional Opera in Zhejiang Province'. Pingyang County's tourism resources cover three-quarters of the county's total area, including the world biosphere reserve known as the 'Kingdom of Algae' and 'Fairy Mountains of the Blue Sea', and the Nanji Archipelago, one of the ten most beautiful islands in China; as well as the national scenic spot Nanyan Mountain, famous for the convergence of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.
