Mae Nang Plueum Temple, Ayutthaya

Wat Sampluem is an ancient temple over 647 years old, built in 1920. It is said that: Mae Pleum was a villager living alone on the riverside in the suburbs of Phra Nakhon. She had no children or grandchildren. One day, Somdet Phra Naresuan (said) by himself in the rain. When he arrived, he saw (looked) at the hut still lit by a lantern. It was late at night. So Somdet Phra Naresuan (said) to go up to the hut. Mae Pleum saw a man with wet clothes coming up, so she kindly invited him. But he spoke loudly, as is the nature of a brave warrior. Mae Pleum warned him, “My son, don’t be so loud. It’s already late. The king will hear and get angry. He spoke even louder, “I want to drink sandalwood water. I’m wet and cold. I want sandalwood water to keep my body warm.” Mae Pleum was even more shocked because today was a Buddhist holy day. Mae Pleum said that if he really wanted to drink it, he had to promise that Don't let the story spread, or the King will know, it will be dangerous. Phra Naresuan promised, so Mae Pleum gave her sandalwood water to drink (eat). Somdet Phra Naresuan stayed overnight at Mae Pleum's house, in the morning he returned to the palace. Later, he organized a procession to take Mae Pleum to be raised in the palace. Because Mae Pleum was a kind person, loyal to the King. After Mae Pleum passed away, Somdet Phra Naresuan held a funeral to honor her. Somdet Phra Naresuan therefore built a temple for Mae Pleum, named "Wat Mae Nang Pleum". The principal Buddha image here is Luang Pho Khao, which is very beautiful. Opening hours: 08:00-17:00 Environment/Facilities: Shady, quiet, there are service rooms outside the temple. Reason for recommendation: It is an ancient and valuable historical site, suitable for learning about history.
